Conor McGregor has had enough of the UFC. ‘Notorious’ has been out of the octagon for over two years, healing from a horrific snapped leg he suffered in his UFC 264 encounter with Dustin Poirier. Having lost the last three of his last four fights, and dealing with a potential career-ending injury over the past nearly six years, ‘Mac’ is in a rut, desperate for a fight.

The Irishman, who was originally supposed to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 296, is cross with the UFC for dragging their feet over announcing a date for his comeback. In his recent visit to Saudi Arabia where he attended the ‘Day of Reckoning’ boxing megacard on December 23, alongside the likes of soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, the Irishman expressed his frustration with the UFC warning reporters that his “patience is wearing thin”. And it seems the 35-year-old has taken mattter into his own hands and floated a potential fight purse that may be the highest ever.

Conor McGregor teases $250 million payday

Conor McGregor has sent out a cryptic tweet that said “😂😂 $250,000,000 a fight 😂😂,”
that implies the former UFC and CW two-division champion may make upto $250 million for his next fight. This, of course, would be the biggest payday in all of combat sports history by far.

Which is a sure indicator that the fight would not be in the UFC as that figure is more than half of the nearly $500 million profit the promotion generates. Given the fact that the image McGregor tweeted with the tweet featured Cristiano Ronaldo, some speculate a McGregor vs. Ronaldo fight either in boxing or MMA may be on the cards. That, however, seems very highly unlikely.

What is much more likely is that McGregor might be fighting in Saudi Arabia, probably in a boxing match, maybe against boxing icon and GOAT contender Manny Pacquiao in the next year. The Saudi government has been trying to promote the kingdom as a sports hub and been investing heavily in putting together huge boxing events.

And McGregor spoke about a potential Pacquiao boxing match in his recent interviews from Saudi. Even though the former boxer lost a $5 million lawsuit to one of ‘Mac’s companies. They sat across each other when they visited the country in October this year. The figure of $250 million, however, seems almost unbelievable and there is good reason to be skeptical of it until provided evidence to the contrary. And as McGregor’s frustration with the UFC mounts, UFC CEO Dana White reached out to the most popular MMA fighter ever.

Dana White provides an update on McGregor’s return

In a recent Instagram live session, Dana White revealed that he had spoken with Conor McGregor and were figuring out a fight for the Dubliner. “We talked tonight. I’m in Abu Dhabi, he’s in Dubai. We’re gonna figure something out. We’re talking,” he said. This means that the UFC has no concrete plans for McGregor’s comeback yet.

Fans may not get to see the return of the ‘Mac’ at UFC 300, as had been hoped by many, and his coach’s forecast of a July date may turn out to be accurate after all. It does seem like the UFC is not taking its biggest, most popular star very seriously. Which is strange and raises a question about the length and shape of the remainder of his career.
