Conor McGregor: The Striker

The Notorious has always been a renowned striker. His left hand has been the primary tool to success. His immaculate skills on the feet are second to none. McGregor is known for this sharp timing and the precision with which he executes his strikes.

After knocking out Jose Aldo, McGregor, in his post-match interview, delivered a quote for the ages. The Irishman said, “Precision beats power and timing beats speed.” This bout also won McGregor his first UFC title.

His Striking: Then vs Now

Although, over the years, McGregor has developed a new style. Earlier, he used to have a more karate-style stance, where he was very light on his feet. He was light-footed and used to throw kicks constantly. In this style, all the power was generated from the snap of his shoulder.

Lately, the Irishman has opted for a more boxing-centric style. Here his stance is wide, he’s heavy on his lead leg and the use of kicks have been minimal. This style has played against him, making him prone to leg kicks. It was evident in the second fight against Dustin Poirier, where the Diamond won the fight based on leg kicks, which created an opening for strikes.
