Conor McGregor has a penchant for making headlines. The UFC’s first-ever simultaneous double champion often engages in tweet-and-delete games that almost always make the news. Recently, Dana White’s Power Slap League caught “The Notorious” one’s attention. The Irishman then promptly called out rival Nate Diaz to a slapping contest, kicking off another war of words between the pair. However, UFC legend Chael Sonnen has now advised McGregor against a potential slap fight with the 209 gangster.

Dana White‘s Power Slap League piqued the interest of McGregor, who tweeted his support for the upcoming event. Taking the conversation further, he called out Diaz, while taking a subtle jab at him. McGregor said the Power Slap title is one that Diaz could actually win. With the back-and-forth that ensued, Chael Sonnen has now stepped in with his own take on the matter.

Chael Sonnen’s warning to Conor McGregor

In one of the latest videos on his YouTube channel, three-time UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen discussed a potential slap fight between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz. Speaking of this potential fight, he said, “I am on board and I am open to this.”

However, Sonnen expressed concern that McGregor may be out of his depth in challenging Diaz to a contest that played to his strength.

“Nate vs. Conor when Nate is known for the slap. I mean, the slap is half his gimmick… They’ve even renamed it the “Stockton Slap.” Now you’re gonna put Nate in a slap contest with Conor?”

Regardless, “The American Gangster” remained sold on the idea of the two big stars crossing over to this new sport. “Even if these guys were trolling us and having fun, which it now appears that they were… I’m in. Are you guys in?”

While a Slap Fight between the pair seems far from materializing, the Twitter fight was as entertaining as ever, with both Diaz and McGregor seeming evenly matched.

Diaz-McGregor back and forth so far

Unsurprisingly, it was “Mystic Mac” who kicked things off with a tweet targeting the younger Diaz brother. His callout of Diaz included a not-so-subtle jibe that read “maybe that’s a title you’d have a better chance of coming close to winning Nate you little slapper.”

Diaz has never been one to stay down and take an insult like that. In a retort that matched McGregor’s insult, Diaz wrote, I already beat you at that game too.” The former UFC Welterweight also attached a clip of him slapping McGregor during their first bout.

The Irishman responded along similar lines, stating how he returned the favor in their second bout. He wrote, “Got you back with concussions. Real smacks.”
