Speaking to Daniel Cormier on ESPN MMA’s YouTube channel, Michael Chandler pointed out that both had broken their back leg, which means it would not take as much punishment.
“The good thing is, it is his back leg. So that’s a good thing, just like in the Conor fight, when people say, ‘hey go after his leg’, it is his back leg luckily for him. So he’s probably not going to throw kicks but he’s also probably not going to take a lot of damage too,” he told Cormier.
‘DC’ reminded him that Weidman had made clear his intention to throw a leg kick as soon as he can in his comeback fight. “He’s said first thing he’s going to do is throw the hardest leg kick with that leg that he’s ever thrown,” he said.
Chandler agreed that it was sometimes best to “rip the band-aid off”.
