In the MMA multiverse, rivalries simmer beneath the surface, just waiting for the right moment to unfold. For UFC stars Conor McGregor and Max Holloway, this pivotal moment arrived when a snippet from Holloway’s fight with Calvin Kattar caught the attention of the Irish superstar.

Conor McGregor once held the UFC featherweight championship himself. So, he couldn’t help but share his thoughts on the punches thrown by Holloway. What’s more – the history between these two fighters dates all the way back to 2013, when they faced each other at UFC Fight Night 26. Back then, the Irishman was a newcomer to the UFC, and fans had yet to witness the potential he carried. But it seems like ‘The Notorious’ is keen on reigniting this rivalry yet again!

Recently, as the former UFC double champion stumbled upon a video from ‘Fight Humor’, he had a lot to say. The clip in discussion was from Holloway’s fight against Calvin Kattar in January 2021. Holloway looked like a world-beater that night, setting a new record for significant strikes. He landed a record 445 significant strikes, beating his own previous record of 290.

In the clip, he was screaming that he was the best boxer in the UFC. And this is probably what rubbed McGregor the wrong way. Sharing the post in his Instagram story, McGregor issued a warning, saying, “I gonna box you around the cage Max for this comment alone.”

Just a few days ago, ‘Mystic Mac’ boldly declared himself the ‘featherweight GOAT.’ And now he’s targeting one of the division’s best fighters. While there are rumors of the Irishman returning to the UFC to face TUF rival Michael Chandler at UFC 296, it appears that he has multiple opponents on his radar, including Holloway.

Interestingly, during an appearance at the FLAGRANT podcast, Holloway and the hosts had a good laugh about an incident that transpired between him and ‘The Notorious.’ He recounted the in-fight moment when he had the Irishman in a half-guard and hit his knee, causing McGregor to scream. Holloway, being the gentleman he is, paused and asked if McGregor was alright. McGregor replied, “Yeah, keep fighting, mate,” Holloway told Andrew Schulz, the podcast host.

Moreover, MMA fans speculated if ‘Notorious’ was actively seeking fights with top-ranked opponents: “Conor trying his hardest to get a guaranteed top 5 fight.”

McGregor and Holloway faced each other in the Octagon back in 2013. The Irishman won the bout via unanimous decision.

Some social media users’ comments reflected frustration with McGregor’s constant trash talk and lack of action in the cage.

“Allow it mannnnn all this guy does is talk now.”

“Bro single-handedly calling out fighters from 4 different divisions every other day.”

“Conor is washed and finished.

“This dude is everything but a fighter these days huh? Unless it’s an older out of shape guy at an Irish bar.”
