Congressmen Bill Pascrell Jr. of New Jersey and Don Bacon of Nebraska tear apart Dana White and the Power Slap League. Additionally, they have taken issue with TBS for promoting the Power Slap League. In an open letter, they criticize the violence innate in White‘s league. Moreover, they are arguing that it has no place on national television. They also point out the damaging effects of traumatic brain injuries, claiming that it is not something that should be used for entertainment purposes.

The UFC president’s new promotion has faced a lot of backlash since its inception. Recently, a American neuroscientist weighed in on the matter, expressing his concerns about the potential long-term effects of traumatic brain injuries. Moreover, his New Year’s Eve incident wasn’t helping him move past the scrutiny of his Power Slap League.

The head injuries that are an inevitable part of these sports can cause lasting damage, leaving fighters permanently impaired. Thus, many neurologists have also voiced their concerns about the potential dangers of MMA and Slap Fighting. These warnings were noticed by the Congressmen as they take on the mantle to raise their voice against violence being displayed.

Dana White and Power Slap League grab the attention of Congressmen

The major concerns of the Congressmen are whether TBS and Warner Bros run a disclaimer at the beginning or at the end of the program. They specifically are talking about the issues regarding concussion and repetitive head trauma injuries. One other concern of theirs is if fighters receive any long-term facility of brain scans and checkups. In a recent tweet they announce that they are penning the letter to the parent company of Warner Bros. TBS.

When fighters receive sudden and strong blows to the head and face, it leads to ‘rotational acceleration’. This is a primary cause of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy which further leads to many brain-related disorders and malfunctions. Some prominent issues a product of this are reduction in memory, depression, impulsive behavior, and dementia. Moreover, it can be also related to suicidal tendencies and Parkinsonism.

Power Slap League compensation under scrutiny?

Congressmen are showing concerns about the compensation of the Power Slap League to its fighters. When considering the risks involved with the sports, it’s only fair that fighters are taken care of. The over $500 million worth of Dana White often faces backlash about the lack of pay towards his fighters in the UFC as well. In the letter, they reveal that although fighters may not have immediate symptoms of brain trauma, it might show up later in their life.

They wrote, “Endeavor Production, TBS, and UFC appear to have created and profited off a deadly television show, with significant reach and impact, without implementing basic and commonsense protocols.

They point out how the fighters are subject to a mere $2,000 compensation. This is not enough while they are endangering their mental and physical health.
