One of Colby Covington‘s most career-defining moments was his rivalry with his former friend, Jorge Masvidal. Masvidal and Covington fought inside the cage once at UFC 272. It was then that Covington won via a decision. Their friendship was beyond shattered, and then Covington was attacked in public.

It is well known now that Masvidal and ‘Chaos’ were friends who lived and trained together. They’ve shared beds before; now they’ve shared punches and elbows. Fighting your friend for sparring and sport is one thing, but having the bitter rivalry they did could be heart-shattering. However, Covington seems proud that he came up as the winner. Here’s what he recently said about Masvidal.

Colby Covington recently appeared on an edition of the PBD podcast. After losing a much-hyped matchup against Leon Edwards, Covington has a lot to say and a lot to express. This time, he didn’t hold back from expressing his final views about his matchup against Masvidal.

“I beat him up, I gave him a 50/43 and a soda,” Covington said. “It was the easiest fight of my career. I can’t believe they paid me what they paid me to beat that backstabbing bum up. He’s a backstabber, as soon as I started rising up in the ranks, that’s when it was an issue. That’s when his ego came in.”

Do you think Covington still holds animosity toward Masvidal after defeating him? Perhaps the fighter does have things within him that have been left unsaid. Covington has not been too open about their relationship before apart from the spite that he usually displays.

During the podcast, Covington was also asked about his comments regarding “slapping” Joe Rogan who once jokingly said that Jon Jones would “slap” him. There are no ill feelings between the two and boast a rather unserious relationship. The same could not be said about ‘Chaos’ and his relationship with Masvidal. So where did it really start?

‘Gamebred’ was upset about Covington’s issue with their coach

Covington and Masvidal trained together, however, at some point, ‘Chaos’ reportedly refused to pay their coach as much as he was promised. This caused a permanent rift between the fighters. The beef would escalate and a fight inside the Octagon would pursue. However, Masvidal lost it as everyone knows.

After the loss, he came up from Covington’s behind in Miami and attacked him. This also led to a lawsuit against ‘Gamebred’ filed by ‘Chaos’ where Masvidal would plead guilty. Now, the two are sworn enemies. A turn in the tide like no other, perhaps, a rematch between the two could settle their differences. Or maybe it would just make things worse. What are your thoughts?
