The debate of boxing vs. MMA will live on as long as fans from both sides take it afar. However, the recent Francis Ngannou vs. Tyson Fury bout has set the bar high for MMA fans to claim that MMA is greater than boxing. Despite his loss, Ngannou gave the reigning boxing champion a formidable challenge, reigniting the age-old question: Could boxers ever step into the UFC arena for an MMA contest? This intriguing prospect has ignited a fresh debate.

Now that the MMA-Boxing crossover matches are over, Fans are expecting more such matches to happen in the future. However, no one’s sure about the happening and non happening about the events. Islam Makhachev in the middle of the hubbub gave his perspective on such fights.

Islam Makhachev is currently in a well-deserved rest period following his impressive performance at UFC 294. Makhachev flawlessly defended his title against Alexander Volkanovski, securing victory with a decisive knockout. In his most recent interview, Makhachev shared his candid thoughts on MMA-Boxing crossover events.

Makhachev recently gave an interview on Russian television. During the interview, the reporter asked Makhachev about his opinion on MMA-Boxing crossover matches and asked whether he would like to fight in such a match. The lightweight champion stated that he was fairly interested in such a match.

“why not, I would be happy to try. In the last fight, Ngannou showed what level a professional fighter can reach by switching to boxing.” Said Islam Makhachev. Down in the conversation, Makhachev fired shots at Tyson Fury for showing Boxing in a bad light.

Makhachev added ” A lot of people would say Fury wasn’t ready, but it was a fight; who cares who was ready? Fury was in a knockdown. Fury showed boxing in a bad light, and the conversations of boxers and fighters are relevant.”  Makhachev also stated that he would love to fight Conor McGregor down the line.

When the reporter inquired whether Islam Makhachev was anticipating a match-up against Conor McGregor, the lightweight champion stated that he would fight McGregor only if he deserved the fight. ” if he deserves it, then yes” was Makhachev’s response.

Makhachev further added, “If he deserves it, he will come back, win 3-4 fights, and, in general, if the UFC leadership offers. I will not miss this fight because I don’t think he deserves it. I don’t even think he deserves it because I don’t believe that he will come back to the winning streak, that he will be able to beat the real contender and become the number one contender.”
