In a recent podcast episode of weighing in, former UFC fighter, Josh Thomson dived deep into why Dana White and the UFC weren’t fixing a date for McGregor’s return. He said, “I think the UFC’s gonna be holding him out until he resigns a new contract and that sunset clause is gonna last another two years by then you’ll be 37 they won’t care what he does.”

He then claimed that the UFC would give McGregor fights that he would refuse so that they would keep on extending his contract. He said, I think that they are holding him out and holding him prisoner right now, I guess you’d say holding the last hostage right now. Look, they are notorious for doing this.”

“You know what, but then they throw an offer out to your management, and they wait for you to try and get resigned. They want you to come to them. Going, hey, this is you know, what are we doing with our contract? Are we going to negotiate this? That’s it,” added Thomson.

Thomson claimed that he, along with several other fighters, have experienced this firsthand and believes that Conor McGregor would be going through the same thing they went through. However, there have been talks about the Irishman returning sooner than people anticipate.
