Former United States President Donald Trump is one of the biggest names in the world to have repeatedly showcased their passion for this sport.

Trump has been with the UFC since its inception days and also is a good friend of the promotion’s boss Dana White. Recently, Trump appeared in an interview with the UFC, where he delved deep into his passion for the fight game. Moreover, his opinions on Kamaru Usman and the former champ’s fight against Leon Edwards drew a lot of attention.

While talking about how unexpected the sport of MMA can be, Trump took the example of Usman vs Edwards at UFC 278. Moreover, he praised the charismatic Usman as a “terrific guy” and an exceptional fighter. Recalling the intense bout, Trump marveled at Usman’s seemingly invincible prowess, describing him as unbeatable until the dramatic turning point of the fight.

“I watched Usman. I think he’s a terrific guy. I watched that fight and he was essentially undefeated and pretty much unbeatable,” he said. “He goes into the fight and he was winning that fight by so much. It was over and then the one kick and it was indeed over. You never really know and I was a little surprised”, the former President added.

Trump’s admiration extended to Edwards as well, acknowledging his dominance in the subsequent fight. “And I give credit to his opponent because, in the next fight, he was pretty fairly dominant. I was a little surprised to see that,” he said. It was surprising for the fans to see Trump go out of his way to praise Usman, while completely ignoring Colby Covington in the conversation. In the past, the former President has talked positively about ‘Chaos’ and even termed him his biggest fan.

Further, Trump offered a surprising take on the fight, describing it as not particularly exciting. He commended Usman’s grappling and wrestling skills, noting that his dominance in those aspects was evident throughout the match.

“It was not an exciting fight but a very dominant fight. Because Usman was dominating with the grappling and the wrestling,” Trump said. “Just dominating and in the last round, he decided to just sort of take it a little bit easy and box,” he added.
