Misery continues to pile up on Colby Covington. The American fighter has been facing heat since dropping his fight against Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa. He was the favorite to bag the win among certain sections of fans. But alas, that’s not how the fight panned out. The result has opened the door for his doubters to flood in and take a dig at him, and it seems even Jon Jones has joined them.

But why did ‘Chaos’ lose the fight? What was the reason? While many believed it was his lack of training, others blamed it on his attitude. But Covington disclosed the reason in a later interview—campaigning for Donald Trump. The 36-year-old said, “This wasn’t a full training camp—I was campaigning for Trump, getting him ready. I wasn’t even in the training room. I came off the couch.” ‘Bones’ picked up on the same reason but was quick to throw a witty comment on it.

Jones, 37, took to his X handle and appreciated the fellow UFC star for campaigning for the newly-elected POTUS. He wrote, “Big shoutout to Colby Covington for skipping training to get President Trump ‘ready’—we all appreciate the sacrifice 🤡At least he got to see me win 🫡.”

Interestingly, the UFC heavyweight champion referenced how Covington witnessed his win over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. This sarcastic dig resonated with the MMA fans, too. They then turned to the comment section of the post and shared their candid opinion.

Fans take a shot at ‘Chaos’

What’s your perspective on:

Did Colby Covington's political distractions cost him the fight, or is it just another excuse?

Have an interesting take?

A fan believed Covington had more excuses. They said, “😆😆😆😆😆 Colby makes more excuses than anyone.” Earlier, Covington expressed that he had taken the fight for the company. In other conversations, he had blamed the referee for stopping the fight. A user hailed Jones’ jab at Covington. They stated, “Jones hitting Colby with Spinning back tweet 🐐” Jones had a series of posts where he called out Covington for his losing streak. Interestingly, the two were college roommates, and their friendship has taken a hit since.

Someone blasted Jones for his fight with Miocic. They declared, “His loss was better than your win, you ducked real comp ().” There has been a strong demand for Jones to fight Tom Aspinall, who is the current interim heavyweight champion. A commenter dug up Covington’s recent UFC record of going 2-4. The comment read, “Colby can’t fight for sh-t.” Covington has only won two of his last 6 fights and is on a steep declining slope since dropping a fight to Kamaru Usman in 2019.

Lastly, a fan pointed out that ‘Chaos’ failed to back up his trash-talking with performance inside the cage. They announced, “😆 poor Colby. Talks a mean game but can no longer back it up.” Covington has carved out a reputation as a prodigal trash talker in recent years. However, his performance inside the Octagon leaves a lot to be desired.
