Right after Leon Edwards claimed victory over Kamaru Usman in a stunning title defense at UFC 286, Dana White wasted no time in announcing the reigning welterweight champion’s next bout against Colby Covington. However, the Englishman wasn’t thrilled with the news and went on record to say that ‘Chaos’ didn’t deserve a title shot, citing reasons to back his claims.
Despite Edwards’ objections, it seems that this controversial title fight is bound to take place, as the UFC president is committed to making it happen. Furthermore, now the UFC veteran Chael Sonnen has weighed in on the situation, reflecting upon the drama and even suggesting a way that Edwards could have held the edge over Covington, had he taken it.

Sonnen continued, “Can you imagine that scenario? Now let me just paint that picture for you. Leon, in front of the world, at least our [UFC] world, says no to Colby and lays out his case, ‘Hey, that guy’s a jerk. That guy sat out for a year. But you know who hasn’t? It’s this goddamn Belal Muhammad who poked me in the eye. Who wouldn’t beat up three guys since. Went out to Fight Island on an undercard and stop [Sean]Brady who’s never been beaten. That son of a b*tch deserve it and I deserve him’… You see the difference?”
However, it seems the situation has taken a different turn, as the 35-year-old Californian is now hyped for the fight and has started taking shots at the reigning welterweight champion. And it looks like the highly controversial bout between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington is indeed the next fight we will be getting.
