Colby Covington believes that Islam Makhachev is a weight bully, and he doesn’t deserve the pound-for-pound #1 status. The welterweight star himself is not even in the top 15 of the pound-for-pound rankings of the UFC, but things could change if he defeated Leon Edwards. Covington believes that he is better than Makhachev because he fights in his natural weight class.

The welterweight contender said, “Eating good, baby. I don’t cut weight though, you know? I’m a real fighter. I compete in my natural weight class because I believe I’m the best fighter in the world. I’m not a weight bully like Islam Makhachev, who has to cut all that weight and have an advantage over smaller opponents. I beat people at their natural weight, and that’s why I’m the number one pound-for-pound fighter on Earth. I fight at my natural weight class.”

Colby Covington is notable for his approach to weight cutting, opting not to shed excessive pounds in favor of competing in his natural weight class. He contends that this strategy enhances his cardiovascular endurance, a viewpoint he openly shares by criticizing other fighters who engage in aggressive weight cutting, referring to them as “weight bullies” striving to shed as many pounds as they can before a match against smaller opponents.
