Colby Covington has a colorful personality. Over the past few years, ‘Chaos’ has proven to be one of the most entertaining UFC stars, leaning heavily into his villainous or heel character. As part of this, he makes sure to be rude to all his opponents and fellow fighters, and he is arrogant, rude, and ungracious in general.

This has seen him go from nearly being cut from the UFC to becoming one of its most recognizable faces. The bombastic American loves the high life and regularly shares his luxurious lifestyle on social media. And another thing he seems to like is art. Ahead of his third attempt at the welterweight title, let us take a look at his tattoos and the meanings behind them.

Covington has not spoken about the meaning behind his multiple tattoos. The welterweight has many tattoos on his body, with one of them needing no explanation. On his right bicep, Covington has his nickname ‘Chaos’ tattooed on it.

Another prominent tattoo he has is a bald eagle, surrounded by an American flag on his left shoulder. This tattoo, too, is self-explanatory. The bald eagle is the national animal of the United States and represents strength and freedom, which, along with the American flag, symbolizes the former Division 1 NCAA wrestler’s patriotism and love for his country.

Covington has the phrase “May Angels walk with me” tattooed on his left rib, which may be a prayer and, in conjunction with the cross on his left tricep, probably indicating his strong faith and love for God. Earlier this year, he got the opening phrase to the preamble of the United States constitution, “We The People” and the Statue of Liberty’s head inked on the left part of his chest, reiterating his love for liberty and America.

He has the Japanese character “武士道 ” which translates to ‘Bushido’, the warrior code followed by the Samurai in medieval Japan, on his right shoulder. And as Covington gets ready for a career-defining fight against Leon Edwards, he will undoubtedly be going into the Octagon with the same do-or-die attitude as a Samurai.

Covington to face Edwards for the title at UFC 296

Colby Covington will face champion Leon Edwards in what may be his last title shot in the main event of UFC 296 on December 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. On his two previous attempts, ‘Chaos’ could not get past the then seemingly invincible Kamaru Usman. The Nigerian’s reign came to an end when Edwards shockingly knocked him out with a head kick in the fifth round to become the new welterweight champion.

‘Rocky’ defeated Usman in the rematch next year to retain the title, and his fight against Covington is the first time he will defend his title against someone not named Kamaru Usman. Going into the fight, Edwards is the favorite given his recent form and slick, well-rounded style. But also given that this might be 35-year-old Covington’s last fight, he would be looking to win at all costs, which will make him very dangerous. Who do you think will walk out as the welterweight champion at UFC 296?
