He also has a bold and outspoken personality, which has made him a controversial figure in the MMA world. Lynch asked Covington why he did not enter the octagon after Leon Edwards’ win against Kamaru Usman. In a similar fashion, Alexander Volkanovksi entered the octagon after Islam Makhachev had defeated Charles Oliveira.
Covington put all the blame on the current welterweight champion, Leon Edwards. He criticized Edwards‘ personality, saying that he fumbles. Moreover, the former interim welterweight champion also said that Edwards lacks charisma and doesn’t sell fights. “Leon (is) doing what he does best, fumble, fumble the moment. That’s why he’s not a prime-time fighter. That’s why he’s not a star like me. He doesn’t sell fights. There’s no charisma there”.
Additionally, he even went so far as to mock Edwards‘ speech impediment. “The guy is mumbling, take those f***ing marbles out of your mouth Leon.”, Covington said. A fight between the two stars is in the making after UFC head honcho Dana White confirmed the matchup.
