Is Colby Covington right to call out Adesanya, or is he just stirring the pot again?

Israel Adesanya may be the slight favorite for his UFC 305 title clash against Dricus Du Plessis, according to the bookmakers, but not for Colby Covington. ‘Chaos’, who gives his picks for almost all UFC PPV events, continued this tradition and predicted the winner of the main event for the Perth, Australia card on Saturday. This being Covington, however, the predictions of course couldn’t be complete without the American taking shots at Israel Adesanya for his allegedly unhealthy amounts of love for his dog, which has become a huge meme in recent times.

Fans will remember Adesanya had said that Sean Strickland implying he has inappropriate relations with his dog as one of the reasons that he was so out of his UFC 293 clash against ‘Tarzan’ that he lost the fight. So upset was ‘Izzy’ at this that he told Strickland right after the loss to not talk about his family, by which he meant his dog. Adesanya considers his dog a part of his family and people talking trash about him and his dog hurt him.

This is precisely why ‘Chaos’ used this line of attack against ‘Izzy’. As far as the prediction itself, ‘Chaos’ picked Du Plessis to beat Adesanya, whom he thinks is at the fag-end of his career. “We’re down under in Perth, Australia for UFC 305, with the middleweight main event between Dricus Du Plessis and the gender-bender Israel ‘Gyno-Sanya’. ‘Izzy’ sees this as his last opportunity for a money grab. So he’s willing to take a break from molesting canines to get his clock cleaned by the new champ. And hey, we get it ‘Izzy’, we’re here to get paid too. That’s why we’re taking that Du Plessis money line to make our bank accounts great again,” he said via Instagram.

While Covington may have written off ‘Izzy’ completely, there is a lot at stake for Adesanya.

Why UFC 305 may see the most dangerous version of Israel Adesanya

Israel Adesanya will come into UFC 305 with one thing on his mind- vengeance. Because he feels that Dricus Du Plessis has questioned his African-ness with his ‘real African champion’ comments and ‘Stylebender’ is incensed. After all, the Yoruba had to face relentless and nightmarish bullying, not to mention racism over the color of his skin and his African heritage throughout his school life in New Zealand.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Colby Covington right to call out Adesanya, or is he just stirring the pot again?

Have an interesting take?

No wonder Adesanya feels so deeply and personally aggrieved by the comments, and ‘DDP’ doubling down on it. Of course, there is also the small matter of the middleweight title, which ‘Izzy’ had lost in a shocking loss to Sean Strickland last year, which had made him an object of ridicule and even led him to take a break from fighting.

Make no mistake, the fight is personal for Adesanya, in a way, it isn’t for Du Plessis, even if the South African has no love for the former champ. This, of course, means that ‘Izzy’ has everything to fight for – redemption for the Strickland loss and to teach a lesson to Du Plessis. And any one of those things brings out the best in any fighter, let alone both together.

This is why UFC 305 main event is expected to be a riveting, electrifying matchup, whose result is difficult to predict. What are your thoughts on Covington’s pick for UFC 305? Let us know in the comments below.
