As we inch closer to the UFC 296 pay-per-view, Colby Covington sat down for a segment called ‘Rate My Drip’ with ‘TNT Sports’. He was shown a picture of several celebrities, including Dana White. When it came to the UFC CEO, Covington showed nothing but love for the 54-year-old promoter.
“Dana White, man. 10 out of 10. Company man. Love this guy,” said Colby Covington. He even doubled down on his opinion that Dana White is the best promoter of fights in all of combat sports combined.“He’s the greatest promoter of all f**ing sports. The greatest f**ing businessman. The smartest mind I’ve ever been around besides Donald Trump,” ‘Chaos’ stated.
He further lauded Dana White for his intelligence in doing business with the fighters and even adding more value to the UFC brand. The former interim champion feels happy to work under the 54-year-old.
“This guy is something else, man. The way his mind works, he’s just incredible, so intelligent [and] such deep intellect. I am thankful to have [White] as my boss and White [is] just a legend,” said Covington.
Despite this sudden appreciation of the UFC head honcho, let’s take a look at when Colby Covington was almost cut from the UFC.
Was The UFC CEO considering removing ‘Chaos’ from the roster?
Colby Covington had mentioned previously that he was going to be removed from the UFC. He mentioned this before his infamous post-fight speech in 2017. He defeated Damian Maia and then proceeded to call out the Brazilian crowd, claiming that they were “filthy animals.” Years after that speech, media personnel asked Dana White about the speculations surrounding Covington’s release from the UFC.

“I have no idea. I honestly don’t know the answer to that question. That was a long time ago,” said Dana White at the UFC 272 pre-fight press conference. It seems like there could have been some plans for Covington’s exit, but his newfound villain persona has garnered a lot of fans and followers, making him one of the biggest draws in the promotion.
