UFC stars Alexander Volkov and Alexandr Romanov clashed in their c0-main event encounter at UFC Las Vegas, headlined by Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili. The encounter between two ranked heavyweights proved to be a thrilling and high-paced action affair for the fans. While the Russian fighter targeted holding on to the win streak, the Moldavian fighter eyed a return to the winner’s column after his recent loss at UFC 278. ‘Drago’ recently had mixed results inside the Octagon as he intended an upturn in his fortunes on the Saturday night fight. However, in the closely contested fight at The Theater at Virgin Hotels on March 11, Romanov emerged victorious in their encounter.
While he entered the Octagon as an underdog, the Russian fighter brought his top game and therefore collected an impressive victory that might give a push to his title aspirations.

Notably, the Russian fighter picked up the victory in a dominating display via a knockout win in the first round.
What happened in the fight at UFC Las Vegas?
Romanov started the fight by sticking to his strengths. He straightaway went for Volkov‘s legs and the Russian fighter exhibited strong takedown defense. The 34-year-old not only resisted his opponent but also assumed control of the fight. The Strela Team representative then came out, with his foot on the pressure. And after the unsuccessful takedown, ‘King Kong’ appeared a bare shell of himself.
The BJJ ace lost his confidence and the desire to fight the opponent. The 35-10 record holder then came with a barrage of punches but Romanov didn’t offer any resistance. Only after repeated calls by the referee, the #14 ranked heavyweight work to shake Volkov off his back. However, the Lion Club gym product couldn’t find an escape and eventually, the referee stopped the fight after the 16-2 record holder had no answer to the #8 ranked heavyweight’s voluminous but heavy punches.
Thus, the months-long training and the change of teams worked out for the Russian fighter. In the post-fight interview, the fighter offered to fight anyone the promotion chose to throw at him.
However, the UFC star Cody Garbrandt didn’t appreciate the way Volkov resorted to the fence grab while he resisted the takedown attempt in the initial seconds of the fight.
