Daniel Cormier and Cain Velasquez talked about their brotherhood in a recent interview. Friendship and rivalry are a part of the UFC and MMA. However, they do not always last, as friendship can quickly turn into rivalry. That was evident with Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington. Cormier and Velasquez, however, have maintained their friendship over the years and now Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev also share a great bond.

Moreover, Makhachev is following in the footsteps of Nurmagomedov by claiming and defending the UFC lightweight title. Both help each other become better fighters and maintain discipline. Recently, Makhachev was compared to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Cormier, Velasquez, and Luke Rockhold used to share a similar bond during their fighting days. Cormier and Velasquez have such a bond that it is still the talk of the town.

Cain Velasquez and Cormier: A brotherhood for a lifetime

Recently, Cain Velasquez sat down for an interview with Javier Mendez. Mendez is a very famous MMA coach and they duo discuss in length about various things during the podcast and even about how they met. Moreover, they also talk about how Cormier was so influential on Velasquez’s career and vice versa. This was the talking point and a reference for comparison with Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Mendez said, “You know, as brothers could be, just the same as Islam and Khabib. They were helping each other, sharpening each other. But they would never fight each other. never that was never going to happen.

Mendez also goes on to mention how Cormier went down a division to light heavyweight so that he wouldn’t have to fight Velasquez. Moreover, it is well known that Cormier is a big foodie and loves to eat. Thus, for him to enforce discipline on that matter and restrict his eating habit was a big statement.

Cormier was just starting with his career when ‘Cardio Cain’ was the UFC heavyweight champion. Moreover, Cormier and Velasquez were going to the same gym at American Kickboxing Academy. They became good friends and training partners over there and created a very tight bond. Thus, Cormier was fighting in the light heavyweight division, even winning the title. It was one of his happiest moments, he did not miss the opportunity to thank Velasquez.

He said, “Cain Velasquez, who is now faced with the worst possible situation, he carried me to heights I never thought. In all my biggest moments, he was right next to me. Now as he is on this journey and this fight that he’s in, I try to support him as best I can.

Now when Velasquez is going through a tough situation, Cormier is there for him as a friend. Every time he has to go to court for a hearing because of the shooting incident, Cormier is there for him as a friend. Moreover, it ‘kills’ DC as a friend and a father to see him go through this situation.
