The main event of the UFC 284 really lived up to its expectations. Two champions of adjoining divisions, Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanoski battled it out with all they had in this super fight. The fight was a perfect blend of thrilling strikes and intense grappling.

However, the fans could even see that there were some verbal exchanges going on between Volkanovski and Makhachev, especially when the two were grappling. ‘The Great’ was a guest at ‘The MMA Hour’ with Ariel Helwani recently and revealed what exactly he was saying to Makhachev.

What did the featherweight champ say to Islam Makhachev?

It all started when the host Ariel Helwani asked Volkanovski about the time he was locked in a body triangle by Islam Makhachev. Volkanovski replied by saying, “Taking my breath away with his legs or something? Na! His legs would have been gassed as he was hanging on for his dear life.”

Some fans could notice Islam Makhachev was more interested to wrestle and grapple, despite stating before the fight that he was looking forward to knocking Volkanovski out. Volkanovski replied to this by saying, “Is this all you got? Just trying to survive, hanging on to your dear life?” in the fight.

One of the most iconic moments in the fight was when Makhachev had Volkanovski in a body lock, but Volkanovski was still punching Makhachev while saying something. Volkanovski recently revealed that he said, “C’mon you little b*tch”. However, the featherweight champ also said that he was “Just having fun with him, not trying to be disrespectful.”

A rematch between Makhachev and Volkanovski?

Islam Makhachev won that fight via unanimous decision. However, many fans did not agree with this decision. The fighters were evenly matched, and the decision was a very close one. Immediately after the fight, fans started talking about a second fight between them to find out who the best is.

Even Volkanovski said in a tweet that he believes he won the fight and would like to go at it again.

Islam Makhachev does not a have clear challenger for his title in the lightweight division as of now. Volkanovski, on the other hand, will most likely face the interim champion Yair Rodriguez next. And who knows? We might even get to see Makhachev vs Volkanovski 2 after the featherweight champion’s next fight.
