Do you know what boxing drill is known as a Joe? Well, the world of mixed martial arts is filled with weird drills with even weirder names. But there’s one thing in common with most of them. They tend to train the fighters to level up their stamina. And not everyone knows about every drill that exists in the world. Joe is one such drill that baffled the featherweight champion, Ilia Topuria

In a video that has recently gone viral on the internet, we can see coach Trevor Wittman holding the heavy bag for Justin Gaethje when he orders, “20 second Joe!” And the former BMF champion started throwing fast, but short strikes with both hands up high. It indeed looked like he was in a catfight. But when ‘El Matador’ stumbled upon that move, he couldn’t hold his amazement in.

During a conversation with Max Holloway ahead of their bout at UFC 308, Topuria reacted to Gaethje’s training. He said, “I saw him working with the bags [mimics Gaethje’s move]. Bro, what the f— is this?” But the BMF champ responded that it was the same exact drill and Topuria knew it.

Why else would he be laughing about it? But the Spaniard confirmed, “I don’t f——- know who is Joe. Who is Joe?” Now, it was Wittman and Gaethje’s turn to make a joke. In the training video, the coach said, “We found out what these are called! A Joe! Max Holloway stole your drill, I mean, your Joe!” Meanwhile, ‘The Highlight’ kept grinning as he continued with the drill.

Soon after the video crossed the threshold of Instagram and X, through Championship Rounds, the fighting community took over the comments section to reveal their thoughts. While many were still questioning about the Joe, many others were left in laughing splits with Holloway and Topuria’s reactions.
