Charles Oliveira wants to be the ‘back-up’ for Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler’s clash but the fans aren’t exactly sure about this move. ‘Do Bronx’ recently faced Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300 to determine the number 1 contender for the lightweight title. Despite putting in an impressive performance with multiple submission attempts that had Tsarukyan in danger, Oliveira lost the bout via a split decision on the night.

However, the loss hasn’t dampened the Brazilian’s spirit as he recently indicated that he would be open to stepping in on short notice if required for the UFC 303 bout between McGregor and Chandler. At the recent UFC 301 media event, Oliveira stated, “I offered myself to be the alternate for that fight, and obviously, I’m down for that. I’d make some money if I don’t fight and if I do fight then awesome.”

But he has one condition that he’d like the UFC to adhere to before he accepts the potential fight against McGregor, a renegotiation of his contract for the bout. It’s interesting to note that his coach, Diego Lima, had previously revealed that the Irishman had messaged Oliveira ahead of his clash against Islam Makhachev. In an interview with MMA Fighting, Lima stated, “Before Makhachev, McGregor texted [Charles Oliveira] telling him to wait, not to fight him. They exchanged direct messages.”

Lima further stated, “…a fight with him would be incredible, of course, it would. Professionally speaking, it would be incredible.”  However, the fans aren’t exactly pleased with Oliveira’s attempt at inserting himself in the picture between McGregor and Chandler’s long-awaited clash at UFC 303. Here’s a look at what the fans had to say on social media about Oliveira’s attempt at trying to secure a “red panty night”!

Charles Oliveira gets blasted by the fans for his UFC 303 offer for Chandler vs McGregor

Fans slammed Oliveira for what they perceived as a “desperate” attempt at a fight against Conor McGregor and even highlighted his loss against Tsarukyan as a reason behind why they feel ‘Do Bronx’ should not be in the “conversation” for UFC 303

“This dude is so desperate for that red panty night it’s hilarious. After that last fight he isn’t even in the conversation anymore, he’s the only one talking about it”

“Red panty night”, a phrase made popular by McGregor as a reference to his opponents receiving massive paydays for fighting against him, was a recurring theme in the comments by the fans

“Chasing red panties night be like”

Fans also pointed out that Oliveira, who has been more active than Michael Chandler, might be too much for McGregor to handle in light of his extended hiatus. They claimed that Tony Ferguson, who has been on a significant losing streak in his last fights, should be a better option

“I think that’d be too hard of a fight for Conor just coming back. Honestly I think they should’ve done Tony vs Conor”

Others envisioned a scenario where Chandler, who has been out of action since his UFC 281 loss to Dustin Poirier in 2022, would have to pull-out of the McGregor fight

“Imagine Chandler waiting 2 years to have to pull out”

But some fans humorously claimed that the long wait indicates that Chandler would make his way to the Octagon even if he lost one of his limbs

“Lol chandler won’t drop out even if he lost a hand”

Fans also claimed that a clash between Conor and Oliveira, both former lightweight champions in the UFC, is a more intriguing bout than ‘The Notorious’ facing Chandler

“Conor v Oliveira is waaaay more interesting by the way”

Others pointed out that there is a possibility that McGregor is the one who pulls out of the bout and as such, Chandler would be an “easy win” for Charles Oliveira as he has already beaten him once at UFC 262 in 2021

“Cool so his next fight is Chandler easy win for him”
