Is Jon Jones truly the heavyweight king, or is he just avoiding real competition like Tom Aspinall?

The fabled rivalry between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier is the stuff of legend. The duo have been at odds ever since their fierce bouts transpired, a notion that has only softened in recent memory. While Cormier has taken up the role of an analyst and commentator, Jones’ legacy counterpart is still going strong as the UFC heavyweight kingpin.

Jones’s latest outing at UFC 309 impressed everyone but doubts have lingered over his alleged “ducking” of Tom Aspinall. The MMA community is convinced that Jones is stalling the division and is cherry-picking his outings. There are very few fighters in the UFC who have the skill set like Jon Jones. The champion is a master of maintaining distances in the fight and also is an elite wrestler. During his fight with Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, ‘Bones’ delivered a dominant performance and defended his title for the first time.

One of the biggest questions now is who will he be facing next. The interim champion Tom Aspinall has been waiting for a long time to face the champion. Aspinall believes he is the best heavyweight on the planet and can beat Jon Jones if they ever fight. However, Daniel Cormier believes this might not be true. DC analyzed the fight and had no problem sharing his honest opinion on the whole.

According to him, ‘Bones’ has the complete skill set to trouble anyone in the division. During the ‘Good Guy/ Bad Guy’ podcast while speaking to Chael Sonnen, ‘DC’ said, “Dude he’s very good and it really did show me Chael that heavyweights are going to struggle with him. So you and I spoke a little bit about this Saturday. When I fought Jon Jones I anticipated all these things because I had seen it. Plus I saw it from other guys that I fought. Well, Jones with all those weapons the front kicks and the leg kicks the spinning kicks the knees. Bro, he had Stipe a step behind from the moment they walked into the Octagon.”

While the highlight of the event was the victory of Jones, it also marked the end of Stipe Miocic’s career. The 42-year-old is considered the greatest heavyweight of all time. However, his long layoff from fighting made a lot of difference in the fight and Jones took full advantage of it. Cormier seemed a bit dejected with the performance and shared his honest opinion on the whole.

Jon Jones delivered a dominant performance, stopping Stipe Miocic in the third round to defend his heavyweight title. From the opening bell, Jones showcased his superior striking, footwork, and ability to control the pace. The way he softened Miocic’s belly with brutal kicks and stopped him from engaging in boxing range was a testament to his adaptability in a fight.

However, one of the biggest talking points of the fight was how Miocic looked out of place. Although the duo is in the twilight of their career, Jones still seemed miles ahead of the Ohio native. This is something Cormier pointed out during his analysis of the fight on his YouTube channel. He said, “From the very start of this fight, it was very apparent that these two were not on the same level. In round one, Jon Jones had a 10-8 round. He started the fight with a beautiful kick to the middle and followed it up with jabs that stunned Stipe Miocic. Then, he took Miocic down with a sick takedown.”

Jones is currently looking for his next big fight and made it clear that he isn’t retiring from the sport. However, the fans now want to know whether he can keep his winning momentum going. Who will he face next? Will it be Tom Aspinall, Alex Pereira or someone different entirely? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
