“When Conor is back and we announce that Conor is fighting, we’ll look at the landscape, see who’s around [and] what’s going on and we’re gonna figure out who’s he gonna fight next,” said Dana White. Meanwhile, he made no mention of Michael Chandler, who was the initial opponent for McGregor. Let us take a look at what the fans had to say about the CEO’s comments.
White’s comments confused UFC fans
The fans were left confused with what Dana White had to say regarding McGregor’s return. They wondered why both Chandler and ‘The Notorious’ were pointed against each other in TUF in the first place. Moreover, they also believe that ‘Iron’ could have been the best comeback opponent for Conor McGregor.
- Dana, then why TUF 31 featured Conor and Chandler in the first place?
- chandler was the perfect comeback fight for conor, star power in abundance, beatable for sure, and he’s good enough/high enough in the rankings for it to have some meaning unlike cowboy fight. idk why they’re backing away from it now
However, some fans stated that Michael Chandler should have forgotten about fighting Conor McGregor as soon as TUF was over. Some say that ‘Iron’ does not have the qualities of having an entertaining rivalry with the Irishman. They believe McGregor needs to face someone with star power.
- Chandler should have stopped pushing for this as soon as TUF was over, of course he’d love a good payday, but it’s not worth the disdain, disrespect, and disregard he’s getting.
- I don’t know why they chose chandler in the first place. He can’t create a storyline or go back and forth with Conor at all. Dude is like the main character of a Disney channel boxing movie
- They need someone with star power who Conor can actually beat
