When the news was first announced that UFC’s favorite and highest-paid fighter, Conor McGregor, is returning to the UFC after spending 2 years away from the sport, the fans could not contain their excitement. His TUF rival, Michael Chandler, who was picked to be his first opponent after his return, was all prepared to get it on with him in the UFC Octagon. However, in a recent turn of events, it seems that Chandler has run out of patience and has decided to continue fighting, but with a different fighter.

Chandler has not put UFC legend Nate Diaz in his crosshairs as a potential foe. Apparently, Chandler has called out Nate Diaz in the hopes of a big fight against him because he seems to be thinking that the Irish lightweight is only joking around and has no plans of fighting him. UFC legend Chael Sonnen recently shared his views on Chandler’s latest callout.

The trash-talking between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler was going nowhere. It was starting to look like Chandler would be waiting for the fight for a really long time – till McGregor decided it was time to return. However, it seems that Chandler has decided to move on from this fight and has called out another UFC fighter who could possibly be as big as McGregor himself – Nate Diaz.

UFC legend Chael Sonnen recently uploaded a video on his YouTube channel where he addressed these new developments with a few interesting questions and speculations of his own. “Chandler going after Diaz… makes me think, only one thing, which is Chandler informing us that he is now a 170-pounder. Because I believe the last two guys he’s going after, have been 70-pounders.“, started Sonnen. “I believe if they get the fight with Conor together, that’ll be at 170.“, he added.

Then, Sonnen started to unravel the situation, one sentence at a time. Chandler’s known this for roughly a year, which means he’s changed his physiology and his body to some degree, to be at 170. When you do that particularly later in life, I’ll be the first to tell… you don’t want to go back down,” pointed out the former UFC fighter.

Then, in the end, he concluded with an interesting insight – an angle. “I’m asking the question – does him going after Diaz have everything to go… do with – a major fight. I can’t get Conor I’ll – I’ll go with Nate… as big or [inaudible] bigger. Stick it to everybody. Is that what he is doing? Or, if that doesn’t work out, is he going to call somebody else out at 170?” asked Sonnen.

When Conor McGregor missed the USADA pool and repeatedly failed to make his comeback this year, he upset the entire UFC lightweight ecosystem. Michael Chandler is now refusing to sit idly by and has called out Nate Diaz. In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Chandler confessed that he had always wanted to fight Nate Diaz.

He proceeded to say that he thought the fight would be fun and proceeded to call Diaz and himself ‘real fighters’. However, this didn’t sit right with the fans and they openly berated him, claiming that he was not chasing the title anymore but was only after big money fights. But then McGregor dropped a promising update which the UFC CEO later confirmed.
