You might know, Conor McGregor for a lot of things, especially for his legacy at UFC. However, you might also know him as the President of Ireland if everything goes according to his plans! The former dual weight champion who has already ventured out of UFC and become a Hollywood actor, as well as an entrepreneur is thinking of venturing into another industry. ‘The Notorious’ wants to try his hands in politics and recently said that he desires to give his name for the presidential election for Ireland in 2025. However, just like he is vocal, even his fans and some UFC veteran insiders are also vocal about their opinions.
But here is the thing. It might not be as easy as he thinks as was pointed out by Chael Sonnen. He explained the whole ordeal in his new YouTube video, stating, “If Conor wants to enter the public domain right now as the candidate he could never even bring up the expression again, that somebody slandered him.” Sonnen also added, “It’s very interesting. It’s a slippery slope. Where is Conor going with that? Is he going to run? That would be pretty cool.”

The former fighter also mentioned that McGregor should be careful not to have the same fate as former candidate Tulsi Gabbard. Gabbard did not succeed in her campaign, and Sonnen drew a parallel between her experience and what McGregor might face if he followed through with this plan.
McGregor had posted on Twitter, “As President, I hold the power to summon the Dáil as well as dissolve it. So, as I said before, I would have all the answers the people of Ireland seek from these thieves of the working man, these disrupters of the family unit, these destructors of small businesses, and on and on and on!”

However, according to the ‘American Gangster’, the fighter would have to play a fair game and he would not be able to slander anyone as he does normally. If the Dubliner decided to become a candidate for Ireland’s president, he would not be treated as he’s been treated now. On top of that, the clock to the 36-year-old’s career is running out because he only has two more fights left in his contract, so he already has something to worry about other than planning on becoming the president of Ireland.
What is McGregor’s future at UFC?
The former two-division champ has been begging UFC boss Dana White about 2024 ever since he had to withdraw from UFC 303. He was supposed to fight against Michael Chandler but hurt his toe during training and had to withdraw from the fight. The boss has flat-out, rejected his pleas and said that he is not going to fight in 2024.

On top of that his opponent, Michael Chandler also declared that he was moving on to other fighters. However, McGregor did not lose hope and spoke to the boss as was evident from his social media post. “We got sh** done! Point Blank! @danawhite,” McGregor wrote on his Instagram story as he reposted an image of him with the boss. Yet, here is the thing, the UFC head honcho is still silent on his part so we don’t know what is going to happen for McGregor for the rest of 2024.
There is more than one thing that is at stake for the fighter. He has not yet got a fight date in UFC and now he has decided to run for the presidential election of his country. What do you think the future holds for McGregor?
