Dana White has been called out for the way he tends to his business many times in the past. From underpaying fighters to providing certain privileges to some of them, these are just a few of those exposures. However, another one of the UFC CEO’s stunning business tactics has come to light, thanks to UFC legend Chael Sonnen, that often left fighters little room for negotiation.
Dana White has raised the level of excitement among fans with a potential Conor McGregor update. He promised to drop some news about the Irishman’s return, who in turn, shared a tweet with a Winky face emoji, adding more fuel to Dana White’s tease. This has led Chael Sonnen to question if Michael Chandler is aware of it because ‘The American Gangster’ remembers an interesting tactic White used back in the day.

Who could forget the rivalry Chael Sonnen had with Anderson Silva when ‘The American Gangster’ dropped the iconic “you absolutely suck” callout? He had two memorable fights against the Brazilian legend. Meanwhile, Sonnen revealed that before one of his fights, he received a phone call from Dana White, which was not a regular occurrence.
“He called me one day and I don’t have his phone number saved. He never called,” Chael Sonnen stated on his YouTube channel. Dana White offered him the fight that he was asking for, against Anderson Silva, but there was a big catch. The 55-year-old had already informed the media before even having a word with ‘The American Gangster’.
“I answer the phone, I’m headed to practice [and] he says, ‘Chael, it’s Dana.’ And he says, ‘You wanna fight Anderson Silva?’ He told me a date… and I said, ‘Yeah,’ and he said, ‘Alright, good because I just went on Sports Center and announced it,'” Chael Sonnen further stated. Such a surprise might be a curveball for many fighters, but for Sonnen, things couldn’t have been more interesting.
“It had already been announced before I ever found out. I love that [and] I think that is so fun,” Chael Sonnen added. He’s insinuating that maybe Michael Chandler is still in the dark about the huge update Dana White has promised to deliver. However, there is a chance that it might not be the case because ‘Iron’ also shared an interesting update that’s only building towards the possibility that his fight with Conor McGregor is indeed happening soon.

Despite waiting for two years and getting jibed at by fans for looking to secure the ‘red panty night’, Michael Chandler believes things are going to come to fruition. After Dana White and the Mystic Mac’s nod, ‘Iron’ teased that the UFC has started working for his big-money fight against ‘The Notorious’. On Instagram, he wrote, “Wheels in motion to bite down on that mouthpiece again… Bet on yourself, always. Walk On. See you at the top!”

However, the most interesting thing to talk about here is that Michael Chandler hasn’t specified who he’s talking about. He once talked about a potential title fight against Islam Makhachev, but he still hasn’t given any indication of wanting to face another opponent as much as he wants to fight Conor McGregor. We will indeed have to wait for further development on this front, so maybe it’s worth waiting for Dana White’s big update on the Irishman.
