Conor McGregor is combat sport’s biggest showman at the moment. Whatever one may think of the Irishman and his recent slide in form, no one can deny his absolute mastery on the mic. After all, one of the main reasons the Irishman became, by far, the biggest superstar in the history of the sport is precisely because of his ability to electrify fans with his world-class trash talk.
And while the Irishman hasn’t had the chance to show off his mic skills in recent times owing to his long absence from the octagon, McGregor was in full form at the recent BKFC on DAZN: Tenaglia vs. Soto press conference in Spain. The Dubliner, of course, is a part-owner of the BKFC where he is charged with mostly promotional duties. And UFC analyst Chael Sonnen couldn’t help but be dazzled by ‘Mac’s bombastic performance at the press conference.
“I got to tell you Conor McGregor the promoter as obnoxious as his shtick is, like, he’s coming out and he’s yelling, he’s calling out Mayweather, he’s cursing. But it kind of works in the [YouTube] Short. I got to tell you like if they just do little 10-second clips of Conor on that stage, he does a pretty good job,” Sonnen said on his ESPN MMA show.

Not only did Sonnen find ‘Mac’s antics very entertaining at the event, but he also felt that the Irishman was perfect for the YouTube Short and TikTok format. In short, ‘Uncle Chael’ was a big fan of Conor McGregor the promoter.

“He brings an energy, he’s got a purpose. I’ve seen other guys get hired, they walk up there because there’s a paycheck. Like I felt that Conor was involved. I felt he had a passion. I haven’t complimented Conor in a long time but I got to give him that. I thought he made the bare-knuckle product interesting.” ‘The Bad Guy’ added. And McGregor may well be looking to make it even more interesting by joining the BKFC’s roster.

Conor McGregor still has two fights left on his UFC contract. No one really knows what the Irishman will do after that. There was buzz earlier this year that the Irishman was negotiating his next contract with Dana White and making it seem like he plans to stay in the UFC. However, BKFC President, David Feldman‘s recent revelations have cast serious doubt on that. In an interview after the BKFC on DAZN: Tenaglia vs. Soto press conference, Feldman claimed that Conor McGregor had told him in private conversations that he planned to fight at the bare-knuckle promotion sometime in the future.

“Unless he’s the best salesman in the world, the talks that we’ve had it’s like ‘I’m fighting here.’ I’m like yeah, OK. He [said] ‘I’m fighting here.’ ‘I go, ‘Why wouldn’t you fight here?’ Because you have equity in the company and if you fight here, you’ll probably make more money than anywhere else in the world,” he said.
While McGregor has managed to retain much of his star power despite his three-year hiatus from the octagon, it is a finite commodity. The sooner McGregor moves to the BKFC, the more he can cash in on his star power. And that should have Dana White concerned.
