A couple of weeks ago, the bombshell announcement about a boxing match between UFC legend Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen surprised many fight fans. However, Dana White appeared to be rather oblivious to it. Nevertheless, the CEO went ahead and picked Silva to win, which might have gotten on Sonnen’s nerves because ‘The American Gangster’s response was nothing short of a bold one, to say the least.

Chael Sonnen’s rivalry with Hall of Famer Anderson Silva is arguably one of the big ones in Dana White’s promotion. Similar to Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz‘s rivalry, ‘The American Gangster’ fought the Brazilian twice but could never topple him. But in the wake of Dana White’s comments on the boxing match, Chael Sonnen claimed that the 54-year-old had no idea what was going on.

On the ‘Good Guy/Bad Guy’ show, before Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen started talking about the latest MMA developments, a clip was aired from the recent UFC 302 presser, where Dana White looked surprised when someone popped up the question about the boxing match. “That’s crazy. I didn’t know that [Sonnen vs Silva is happening],” said Dana White in response to one of the media representatives. Thereafter, he touted Anderson Silva to be the eventual winner.

“Boxing? I would have to go with Anderson Silva in the boxing match,” White added. Most fans would side with the 54-year-old’s choice because Anderson Silva’s striking skills need no explanation and his skills have transcended fairly well in the boxing world. Chael Sonnen has never endeavored into this world. But guess what? ‘The Bad Guy’ always has a trick up his sleeves.

“Dana thinks that [Silva] is going to win because he is not armed with the information Daniel that I plan to cheat,” Chael Sonnen stated on the ‘Good Guy/Bad Guy’ show. But why would he talk about cheating? That’s an unusual response, as most would think. But that’s a reminder of him losing out on potentially winning UFC gold, something that he never could.

The second encounter between Chael Sonnen and Andeson Silva had a lot of things going wrong for the former. ‘The Spider’ may have made use of some unfair means that night in 2012. In multiple instances, Silva was observed putting vaseline on his body. If that wasn’t enough, the legendary Brazilian even messed with Sonnen’s fight gear, which was pulling his shorts. The worst one came after that when he hit ‘The American Gangster’ with a knee while the latter was grounded.

No reprimanding, no punishments, and Anderson Silva’s win wouldn’t get overturned. While he didn’t have a chance then to settle the score, Chael Sonnen could very well look forward to getting his due on June 15. But before we even get to that boxing match, let’s get acquainted with the rules.

Sonnen vs Silva to be an exhibition bout

Chael Sonnen will travel all the way to Brazil for the match, and we all know how Brazil feels about him. The National Boxing Council Brazil’s president, Geyza Caryny, revealed that the fight is going to be contested under some special and modified rules. First of all, the boxing match is just an exhibition and it’s not going to go down in the records.

Additionally, Caryny also confirmed that the only way to win is by referee stoppage or if one fighter outscores the other through points. The weight at which the boxing match will be contested will be 216 pounds or 98 kgs. While Anderson Silva has a boxing record of three wins and two losses, Chael Sonnen is going to make his debut in this sport when he eventually squares off against one of his biggest rivals on June 15.
