Dagestan is known for producing some of the best wrestlers in the world, and in the sport of MMA. This capability is pretty much starkly visible in UFC with the likes of Team Khabib and their prodigies in reigning UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev and Usman Nurmagomedov. Then there’s the emerging star Shara Magomedov. However when it comes to ‘Bullet’ he is different because rather than being an amazing wrestler like most exports from Dagestan, he’s a power-packed striker. That’s not all? Unlike Team Khabib and Co. who generally like to keep their fighting confined to the Octagon, Shara ‘Bullet’ is infamous for his public outbursts as well.

Recently a video from 2023 resurfaced where ‘Bullet’ physically assaulted a man for a public display of affection with his woman. According to allboxing.ru, the event occurred in a mall in Makhachkala, the capital city of Dagestan. The couple was seen embracing and kissing each other on an escalator with ‘Bullet’ right behind them. Magomedov confronted the couple, and upon exiting the escalator, the man threw a punch at the UFC middleweight. A scuffle ensued before the two were separated. However, ‘Bullet’ took it a step far when he later ambushed the man and sucker-punched him before kicking him on the ground.

Many people reacted sharply to Magomedov’s actions, criticizing him for the violent act. However, former UFC middleweight Derek Brunson thought otherwise. Reacting to the video on X (formerly Twitter), ‘The One’ wrote, “Looks like he was assaulted and acted in self-defense. No question.”

To add to the fury of those opposing the violence, Shara Magomedov justified his actions, claiming that such an act wasn’t in accordance with the laws of Dagestan, predominantly a Muslim Russian territory. He said, “One has to understand the situation, in Makhachkala, there are unwritten rules, a kind of moral code of our own…In Moscow it is acceptable, but with us, it is not acceptable. I could not shut up.” But this isn’t the only time, the Dagestani hot-head found himself in a bit of controversy. Let’s take a look at the other instances.

More on Shara Magomedov’s controversies

Another video footage from the ADCC Southeast Asia tournament in 2023 where ‘Bullet’ was again in the midst of a controversy. Apparently, the Dagestani striker wasn’t happy that his black belt opponent heel-hooked him, when ‘Bullet’ (then a blue belt) made the request to his opponent not to initiate leg-entanglements.

Upon tapping to the heel hook, less than a minute in, then he went up to his opponent and shared some scathing words with his opponent who was lying on the ground. Shara Magomedov then kicked him as seen in a video that went viral. According to Magomedov, they had a verbal agreement about not using heel hooks, but there was no confirmation on the part of his opponent. Furthermore, if you’re entering the pro division of any Jiu-Jitsu tournament, you’d better be prepared to deal with all aspects of the game. Magomedov was not happy that his opponent did not keep his word, so he kicked him. However, this is an unconfirmed information.

The problematic behaviors don’t end there. Magomedov even had a controversy involving Nina Marie Daniele. She has garnered massive attention through her YouTube interviews and vlogs with top UFC fighters like Sean Strickland and Jon Jones.

Naturally, she decided to collaborate with ‘Bullet’ before UFC 308 and the video started off in a pretty light-hearted tone. Magomedov showed off his impressive fight skills and was playful at first. However, as he got more into the zone, the self-proclaimed ‘Pirate’ demonstrated a head kick, narrowly missing Marie-Daniele’s head, which prompted fans on social media to berate the fighter.
