Former interim UFC welterweight champion Carlos Condit will return to action in January. He will go up against fellow veteran Matt Brown. The pairing between the two has failed to happen twice already. With the third booking between the two, fans will hope that they finally step inside the Octagon against each other.
The fight will reportedly take place on Jan 30. MMA Fighting was the first one to report the news. The UFC has not yet made an official confirmation about the fight. As per reports, both the fighters have verbally agreed to fight each other.
The first instance when the UFC booked a fight between Condit and Brown was back in 2013. The second attempt came two years ago in 2018. On both occasions, Brown had to pull out from the fight owing to injuries that he sustained his training.

Matt Brown is currently coming off a loss against Miguel Baeza in his last outing in May. Prior to that, he had won two fights back-to-back against Ben Saunders and Diego Sanchez. In slight contrast, Condit broke a long streak of setbacks in his last fight against Court McGee during UFC’s stint on Fight Island.
Carlos Condit and Matt Brown have been going back and forth from earlier this year
Owing to the history between the two, Condit and Brown have been talking about each other even before the news of the booking between them came out.
Brown, who had health concerns around the time when COVID-19 was establishing its presence in the USA, said he wanted to fight Condit back in April. However, as the two were on pretty different positions in terms of the records of their past few fights, the UFC instead booked him against Baeza.

On the other hand, after Condit won his fight against McGee, he accepted that the idea of fighting Brown was something that he could play with in the future. However, he wanted Brown to be ‘bubble-wrapped‘ before the fight so that he can’t suffer any injury for the third time in a row.
