Is Joe Rogan losing his touch, or is Tucker Carlson just the new flavor of the month?

Joe Rogan has been dominating the podcasting realm for quite a while now, with his talk show, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ being the #1 podcast in Spotify’s rankings. However, the 56-year-old podcaster has just been dethroned by Tucker Carlson and his podcast. The American commentator and writer’s podcast, ‘The Tucker Carlson Show’ overtook the JRE and became the number one talk show on Spotify.

Rogan’s podcast dropped down to the second spot, while ‘Call Her Daddy’ with Alex Cooper, and ‘Cancelled with Tana Mongeau & Brooke Schofield’ were the third and fourth most popular podcasts on Spotify, respectively. Needless to say, the JRE has been one of the most viewed podcasts around the globe. With more than 14.5 million people tuning in to Rogan’s podcast on Spotify and more than 17 million subscribers on YouTube, the UFC color commentator’s popularity is pretty high, don’t you think?

Earlier in February, Rogan announced that his podcast will not be exclusive to Spotify anymore. He traversed into the realm of YouTube videos. But that didn’t stop him from praising the audio platform. In a tweet back in February 2024, the JRE host wrote, “Shoutout to [Spotify] for absolutely being the coolest and smartest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of being in partnership with. I’m very excited the podcast will now have a much broader distribution.”

But how come such a popular show dropped down to the second spot on Spotify? As the news landed on Reddit, the JRE audience began speculating the reason why the JRE dropped in the rankings. Let’s see what they had to say.

Joe Rogan gets a reality check after the JRE drops down to #2

As soon as the post was shared on Reddit, the fans took over the comments section and revealed their opinions. Some of the fans believed that the drop in the rankings was because of Rogan’s rants. It’s not a novelty for a JRE fan to watch Rogan rant about a topic. But little did he know this would negatively affect his stance in the rankings. One fan wrote, “I almost cant stand Joe Rogan anymore. He goes on endless rants about the same stuff over and over and over. I skipped through half of his psychedelic rant with Jordan Peterson and never even finished.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is Joe Rogan losing his touch, or is Tucker Carlson just the new flavor of the month?

Have an interesting take?

This emotion was carried forward by a few other fans, who compared Carlson with Rogan and concluded that the American writer “doesn’t really ramble either. Tucker is there to ask questions and let the guest speak. Rogan now feels like a guy who just want to ramble about his opinions and not actually ask his guests any real informed questions.”

Many fans were disappointed in the UFC commentator for cutting in his guests’ dialogues. If he restricts doing so and lets his guests take more footage, then maybe he has a chance of bouncing back to the top spot. “I have listened to a handful of tucker’s podcasts, and one thing he’s got on Joe is that he lets his guests talk 80% of the time, and he rarely, if ever, interrupts them,” read a comment.

The fans also wanted more interesting guests with more captivating stories. The JRE did feature the same guests on multiple episodes, which didn’t sit well with some of the fans. “His guests have been pretty uninteresting the last month or so. I don’t mind comedians and comedy talk as much as some others on this sub, but they have to be interesting comedians,” a fan opined.

However, shifting to YouTube was yet another factor that played a role in the popularity of the podcast on Spotify. After all, nobody likes to pay extra money to Spotify for something they can watch for free on YouTube. “Yeah the moment he transitioned back to YouTube I stopped using Spotify (aside from that parks episode). I’d imagine that’s the reason,” wrote a fan. Meanwhile, another comment read, “I think its most definitely because hes back on youtube and not because of a ratings drop.”

Nevertheless, the JRE still remains one of the top-ranked podcasts in the world, and that is quite an achievement. Why do you think JRE dropped to the second spot? Let us know in the comments down below.
