In 2022, Jorge Masvidal landed in legal trouble after sucker-punching Colby Covington following his UFC 272 loss. The incident happened outside a restaurant in Miami. Meanwhile, Joe Rogan recently opined on that incident and criticized Masvidal for his actions in a recent JRE episode.

Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal have a long history with each other. They were friends before but later they became enemies, and the two never missed an opportunity to diss each other. However, ‘Gamebred’s attack on Covington was not to Joe Rogan’s liking. Let’s see what the UFC color commentator had to say.

Jorge Masvidal lost a five-round fight against Colby Covington at UFC 272. There was a lot of heat between the two fighters in the build-up to the fight, and the heat did not go away even after the fight was done and dusted. It was after that fight that Masvidal attacked Covington in Miami. But Joe Rogan was not a fan of ‘Gamebred’s actions.

“You can’t be going around sucker-punching someone who just kicked you a**,” said Joe Rogan. He also mentioned that Masvidal had Covington inside the Octagon but failed to do what he did after the fight in Miami. Rogan further stated, “You had your chance to punch him and it didn’t work out at all.”

The 56-year-old also shed light on the fact that Colby Covington did the right thing by calling the law enforcement authorities. If he hadn’t done that, Jorge Masvidal would have done that again. Furthermore, it would give a bad reputation to MMA fighters and the sport as a whole.

“You can’t just let people get away with that then because they are going to do that more often and it’s gonna really muddy up the sport. It will be a real problem,” Joe Rogan continued.

Finally, he concluded with the fact that what ‘Gamebred’ did was a crime and people should refrain from attempting such stunts. Rogan added, “It’s a crime. You are literally committing crime. Don’t do that.” Regardless of what Jorge Masvidal did, he was able to get out of the legal repercussions.

The ‘Gamebred’ pled guilty

Jorge Masvidal recently pled guilty to the charges of misdemeanor battery against Colby Covington. Furthermore, a couple of other felony charges were dropped due to a plea deal with the prosecutors. This meant that he would not be serving any time in jail; however, ‘Gamebred’ would have to pay the court fees for the assault case. He later took to Instagram and shared a message following the court’s decision.

“F*** you, Colby. It’s going to be a f***ing movie now,” said Jorge Masvidal in a defiant message to Colby Covington. He also mentioned that his legal fiasco could be a great idea for a Hollywood flick. “All these orders, all these restraining orders been lifted off. It’s going to be a f***ing movie,” said Masvidal.

Although Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal never miss out on the opportunity to speak ill about each other, it seems like they are now on separate paths. While the former BMF champion has turned into a promoter, ‘Chaos’ is gearing up for his title fight against Leon Edwards at UFC 296. They surely won’t be crossing paths anytime soon.
