Will we finally witness Conor McGregor‘s long-awaited return? The buzz is back—and it’s loud. McGregor and Michael Chandler are stirring the pot once again, and this time, it feels different. Could they actually be serious? ‘Mystic Mac’ has been toying with the idea of stepping back into the Octagon ever since that brutal leg injury against Dustin Poirier nearly four years ago. But despite multiple teases, nothing concrete has materialized. Here’s an ironic twist—McGregor was active for four years, and now, he’s been out for four. A poetic pause? Maybe. But now, the fire in the goblet seems to be raging once more, as ‘The Notorious’ and ‘Iron’ Chandler reignited their feud with a vengeance.

Michael Chandler waited for Conor McGregor for two years, which, according to many within the community, was a big lapse in judgment for someone who joined the UFC just outside the consensus prime age.. Since Chandler’s return to the Octagon, he has faced back-to-back defeats at the hands of Charles Oliveira and Paddy Pimblett. With his career hanging in the balance, he has been given a ray of hope by Conor McGregor. The former dual weight champion took to his X handle to again ignite his rivalry with Michael Chandler by saying, “I’ll only come back to a stadium.” ‘The Notorious’ was talking about the full house at WrestleMania 41 that went down at the Allegiant Stadium.

If you remember, McGregor has been courting the Las Vegas Raiders’ home ground since 2020. ‘The Death Star’ first fell on the Irishman’s radar during his return to the UFC in 2020, for UFC 246. A year later, ahead of his ill-fated UFC 264 bout against Dustin Poirier, McGregor proposed his desire to headline the UFC’s first-ever stadium show, naming the Allegiant Stadium as his desired venue for a lightweight title fight.

Now, you might be wondering, how did McGregor give a ray of hope to Chandler? Well, in a follow-up X post, ‘Mystic Mac’ wrote, “Iron Mike Chandler. Unfinished business.”  As soon as the Dubliner made this statement, he got a response from the former Bellator champion as he uploaded a photo of them together on his X handle and captioned it with, “Unfinished Business Loading….”

Chandler then followed up with a series of posts on Threads, calling out Conor McGregor and providing more clarity on the fiasco. The former Bellator champion wrote, “Dust off the old contract and add some new ink. I’m ready tomorrow,” and “YOUR WORD IS YOUR BOND, IF YOUR WORD IS NO GOOD THEN EVENTUALLY YOU ARE NO GOOD.”

Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler‘s fight fell off last year due to an injury sustained by the former dual-weight champion, and since then, there have been no signs of a comeback for Conor McGregor, at least until now. Well, ‘Mystic Mac’ is known to increase the hype of his comeback by making these X posts. But is it too little, too late?

What’s your perspective on:

Is Conor McGregor's comeback just hype, or will he actually face Michael Chandler this time?

MMA Community calls out Conor McGregor for falsifying his comeback

There was a time when Michael Chandler was considered a needle-mover in the UFC’s lightweight division. However, since returning from a two-year layoff, things have taken a drastic turn for the former Bellator champion. He has now suffered back-to-back defeats, and his UFC record stands at 2-5. Observing this decline, one fan wrote,“Conor might beat this version of Chandler.”

We’ve seen this for years now—Chandler calls out McGregor, McGregor responds, the hype builds, and then there’s no fight. This time is no different. Both of them are nearing 40, and their fight is becoming more of a myth than a reality. Looking at this a fan wrote, “They will both retire without fighting anymore.” Furthermore, another social media user emphasized,“We’re all over this already lol.”

According to a fan, “Chandler have been calling out Conor since 2017.”  However, the first time Michael Chandler called out Conor McGregor was back on January 23, 2021, right after his UFC debut at UFC 257. After knocking out Dan Hooker, ‘Iron’ took the mic to issue a callout against ‘Mystic Mac,’ “Conor McGregor, surprise, surprise, there is a new king in the lightweight division. Dustin Poirier, your time has come,” said Chandler. Following this, another social media user believes that McGregor is just playing with Chandler: “Conor is just toying with this man’s life.”

Last but not least, they finally found some support in a fan who emphasized that the people thrashing Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler would be the first ones to watch it, “Ya all acting like ya won’t buy and watch it lmao.”

As of now, the UFC is scrambling to save UFC 317 as International Fight Week draws near, and Dana White still doesn’t have his fighters lined up. Could this be an opportunity for Conor McGregor to save the UFC? State your thoughts in the comments below.
