His next target is winning the welterweight title and standing in his way is Leon Edwards. Although he is yet to make any official announcement about the move coach Lovell already has a strong message for him. He sat down for an interview before his students title defense. According to the legendary coach he feels ‘Rocky’ can negate the threat of Makhachev. While he believes Makhachev is skillful size will play a huge role in the fight feel Lovell.

While speaking to ‘Submission Radio’ he said, “Islam moving up to welter[weight], would he be big enough? Would he have the same effect that he has at his weight now? I don’t think so. Has he met a sharpshooter like Leon? No, he hasn’t,”. He further pointed out as to how Edwards has faced some elite wrestlers in his career and has come out on top against them. Facing Makhachev will definitely be challenging but according to Coach Lovell the champions wrestling skills is constantly improving. The fight will be a masterclass and the fans will be eager to witness it. However, it will be interesting to see whether the fight happens or not.
