Brian Ortega, having dealt with some personal issues over the past year, returned to action with a bang  Ortega. He avenged his loss to Yair Rodriguez earlier this year and now, his sights are set on another challenge this weekend at the T-Mobile Arena. ‘T-City’s going head-on against Brazilian up-and-comer, Diego Lopes in the co-main event of UFC 303.

UFC 303 could be the last time we see Brian Ortega competing as a 145-pounder. He’s decided to move up in weight to the lightweight division and Diego Lopes will be his final featherweight opponent. As he sets up for his momentous bout, let us take a look at one often overlooked factor that may provide a clue to the mindset with which Ortega is coming into his upcoming fight: his walkout music.

In addition to having personal problems, Brian Ortega also dealt with a shoulder injury, which he suffered in his first fight against Yair Rodriguez. Hence, it was important for him to return to the winning column and further his ambitions of getting his hands on the 145-pound title and the fans that he’s still on point despite sitting out for two years. As such, as he walked out to the Octagon in the rematch at UFC Fight Night 237, Ortega’s choice of song hinted at his mentality coming into that fight as he walked out to the Octagon to the Argentine band, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs’ song, ‘El Matador’, which translates to ‘Killer.

Brian Ortega’s walkout song for the Yair Rodriguez rematch was composed in 1994 and that song marked the peak of the popularity of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs since they won the MTV Video Music Award for International Viewer’s Choice (Latin America) the same year. Having said that, let’s take a look at the former featherweight title contender’s other notable walkout songs.

Other walkout songs of ‘T-City’

Brian Ortega has used different walkout songs in his nine-fight UFC career. The featherweight, who has seen a recent glut in form, losing two of his last three fights, will be confident in his rematch with Yair Rodriguez.

In their first fight, ‘T-City’ walked out to the tunes of Sangre Caliente by Vicente Fernandez. However, given the outcome of the fight and the event taking place in Mexico, the California native may choose to go with a different song this time around.

Previously, Ortega has made his ring walk to Demetrious X’s ‘The Purge’ (against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 266) and hip-hop classic ‘X Gon’ Give It to You’ by DMX (against Max Holloway at UFC 231). Meanwhile, the former title contender shared some inside information regarding his UFC 266 walkout. Let’s have a look at that front.

Brian Ortega reveals the story behind the popular UFC 266 ‘Purge’ walkout

The masks, the walkout song, and the crowd’s response made Brian Ortega’s UFC 266 ‘Purge’ entrance one of the most memorable ones ever. But guess what? The backstory of this song starts with a few noisy neighbors, who couldn’t cut ‘T-City’ some slack. He was training for the Alexander Volkanovski fight, and after his sessions, he would come back home to rest but his neighbors would be up and making a ruckus all night long.

I was like, dude you guys go to sleep? What’s going on? Like come on now, I got a fight I got to train for… I think it was some reels or something, The Purge song came on, right? And I started fantasizing, not the best thing, but if The Purge was real, the first thing I’m doing is I’m going upstairs [to take care of his neighbors],” Brian Ortega revealed during the UFC 303 media day.

‘T-City’ would also add that he took the idea and found a remix version of ‘Purge’ and decided to walk out with the masks, along with his team. that was the concept, be all hoodied up, with a lighted mask. And then I was like, dude, what if I walked out to this, wouldn’t that be dope?” Well, it remains to be seen if he has any special ideas for the fight against Diego Lopes.
