After rounding up its best year in the business, UFC is all set to take the next one even further. Having sorted out the winter fights, the matchmakers have set their focus on spring. With that said, the UFC has booked a match between top strawweight contenders Marina Rodriguez and Yan Xiaonan for their pay-per-view event in March.
Xiaonan’s management firm, Paradigm Sports, confirmed the high voltage clash between the 115-pound elites on Twitter. “It’s official. Yan Xiaonan will take on Marina Rodriguez in a strawweight bout at UFC 272 in Las Vegas on March 5. #UFC272 #GP.”

Notably, UFC President Dana White confirmed that strawweight champion Rose Namajunas will defend her belt against former champion Carla Esparza. All things considered, it is a no-brainer that the clash between strawweight #3 Marina Rodriguez and #4 Yan Xiaonan will serve as a title eliminator.
‘Fury’ is currently 13-2-0 1(NC) in her professional career. The Chinese fighter is battle-tested with remarkable wins over established 115-pounders Angela Hill, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and recently retired UFC star Claudia Gadelha. However, she lost her last fight to Esparza via a second-round stoppage.
Marina Rodriguez in the race for the title shot
Marina Rodriguez has shown incredible capability since her UFC debut back in 2018. The 34-year-old, with a record of 15-1-2, currently rides a 3 fight winning streak. After beating Amanda Ribas and Michelle Waterson, she ended 2021 with three wins from three fights by outpointing Mackenzie Dern. For her efforts at the UFC Apex, the Brazilian claimed her maiden UFC post-fight bonus.
