Jamahal Hill was scheduled to compete in his first title defense against Jan Blachowicz after winning it at UFC 283. However, those plans may not come to fruition. ‘Sweet Dreams’ recently suffered an injury that has spelled the end of his light heavyweight championship reign.

Jamahal Hill rose through the ranks after appearing in Dana White‘s Contender Series. Moreover, he is currently the only fighter from that show to have won a divisional gold. Earlier this year, he defeated the legendary Glover Teixeira to win the vacant light heavyweight championship at UFC 283. However, now he will have to take a break for a while.

An unfortunate news update suggests that Jamahal Hill suffered a torn Achilles during a training session. Furthermore, he will have to undergo surgery to fix that and, as a result, has to relinquish the light heavyweight title. In a recent YouTube video, Hill said, “Everyone knows that I have been waiting for months now to face Jiri Prochazka and defend my belt and my title. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait a little bit.”

Jamahal Hill also stated that he will have to go to rehab after getting through with the surgery, and may take some time before he returns to fight again. Hill added, “I have ruptured my Achilles… It’s one that’ll require surgery and time and rehab and things to be out for a while.”

In addition to that, ‘Sweet Dreams’ mentioned how Jiri Prochazka relinquished his championship when he suffered a shoulder injury. As such, Jamahal Hill will follow the same route and will give up his title for the division to have an active champion. He added, “Jiri Prochazka was the champion. He suffered an injury… he gave up the belt… to make sure the people had a champion. I’ll do the same.”
