Former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has been found guilty in a DUI case, just days after his defeat against Sean Strickland. DUI charges are not new to the UFC roster but Adesanya is an unexpected name on the list. However, this is not the first time this champion has landed in legal trouble.

The Last Stylebender was present with his lawyer and 2 security personnel in the Auckland district court. Adesanya was charged and adjudicated under the NZ penal code. In an exclusive interview with the Herald, he seems remorseful of his actions, and here is all that happened.

The Court documents suggested that Adsanya drove along Wellesley Street in Auckland Central, and his blood alcohol concentration stood at 87 milligrams per 100 milliliters. It surpassed the legal limit of 50 milligrams.  The 34-year-old former middle-weight champion thus pleaded guilty. The incident comes only 21 days after his fight against Strickland.

While addressing his country adesanya stated, “I want to apologize to the community, my family, and my team for the decision I made to get behind the wheel after drinking at dinner,” He further added, “ I was pulled over and gave an evidentiary blood test – the reading was 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood.”

Adesanya further stated “I am disappointed with my decision to drive, It was wrong. I know that people might follow me and I want them to know I do not think this behavior is acceptable.” The consequence for the activity encompasses a maximum of three months behind bars or a monetary compensation of $4500. The legal team of Adesanya petitioned the court for a non-conviction outcome, a request that was ultimately approved by the presiding judge.

This is not the first instance where Israel Adesanya was found guilty and charged for his actions. At JFK Airport, Adesanya encountered a legal predicament, when brass knuckles were discovered in his possession by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) personnel. It is worth noting that these metallic knuckles are prohibited in the jurisdiction of New York and are accorded the degrading classification of a class A crime.

Tim Simpson, Adesanya’s manager, explained that this tricky situation happened because Adesanya accidentally put illegal items in his luggage. Adesanya didn’t realize how serious the legal problem was initially. But when airport security found these hidden items, Adesanya quickly got rid of them and cooperated well with the authorities.
