The 135-pound division is extremely top-heavy, with several contenders in a pole position to make some real noise. Both the fighters have staked their claim towards the belt in different capacities, however, they won’t be in immediate contention. What’s more, divisional king Petr Yan will defend his gold strap for the first time against Aljamain Sterling.
UFC bantamweights: Frankie Edgar vs Cory Sandhagen
Former champion Frankie Edgar made a long-anticipated drop to the 135-pound division with an August bout against Pedro Munhoz. The fight went in favor of Edgar via split decision and set him back on track after a slew of losses at featherweight. ‘The Answer’ found himself on the receiving end of some brutal losses that virtually forced him to drop a division.

The 24-8-1 fighter is better sized at bantamweight and a win over Munhoz has positioned himself for an entry-level opportunity. Moreover, he’s facing a fighter whose only loss came to the guy who’s next in line for a title shot in Aljamain Sterling. Furthermore, prior to the defeat in his bout against ‘The Funkmaster’, Sandhagen was the man to beat at bantamweight.
Cory ‘The Sandman’ comes into the fight with Edgar off the back of an impressive TKO win over Marlon Moraes not too long ago. They fought back in October and Sandhagen dispatched Moraes with a spinning wheel kick KO. Fans had picked Marlon Moraes to come out on top in the particular fashion and Sandhagen briskly turned the tables.

Barring the loss to Sterling in which he was subbed in under 90 seconds of round one, Sandhagen has yet to lose a fight in the UFC. He has been with the company since January 2018 and toppled big names such as Raphael Assuncao and John Lineker. Chiefly, he’ll likely slide himself into the landscape for the next title shot should he finish ‘The Answer’.
