The highly anticipated lightweight trilogy match-up between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor may very well have a date. Per Giorgi Kokiashvili from Adjarasport TV, Poirier vs McGregor 3 is being targeted for July 10, 2021. Chiefly, the news hasn’t been made official by the UFC yet; however, the timeline plays out with other match-making events.

ESPN’s Ariel Helwani recently came out saying that a May 15 date which was previously being pushed for won’t happen. Not to mention, June 12 also received a booking for a flyweight title rematch between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno.

Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 3 has always been rumored for the summer, and July 10 seems like the frontrunner.

The aforementioned lightweight bout will go a long way in defining the careers of both men, who are competitive rivals. Chiefly, there was a near 6-year gap between their first and second booking, and a lot changed in the rematch. The last fight will cap off the evolution of both fighters’ game and put one man in front of the other for good.

While the Irishman scalped the first win in September 2014, Poirier came back and evened the score in early 2021. Poirier executed the perfect game plan and left McGregor slumped on the canvas with his first-ever TKO loss in MMA. Furthermore, he presented Conor McGregor with a hole in his game that made it impossible for McGregor to make a comeback.

However, ‘The Notorious’ is confident that will be able to implement an offensive this time with the threat of leg kicks. His wide stance makes it easier for opponents to opt for limb destruction, and McGregor suffered the consequences.

The rubber match will be a chess match wherein the most game-plan-ready fighter will walk away with the win.

Moreover, the lightweight division is wide open after Khabib Nurmagomedov finally decided to relinquish his title. A new champion will be crowned between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira in May. The winner of Poirier vs McGregor 3 will probably get the next crack at gold while several contenders stir for their opportunity later on.
