Brandon Royval is gearing up to face the reigning champion, Alexandre Pantoja, at UFC 296. The much-awaited event is all set to take place at T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, on December 16. “Raw Dawg” has earned his spot as a title contender after a series of wins in the division. 

However, during his journey to the top, he faced some losses in his career. As the 31-year-old prepares hard to win the flyweight title, it’s worth looking at some of the losses he faced in his career.

A closer look at the losses of Brandon Royval’s career

“Raw Dawg” currently holds a record of 15-6-0 in the UFC since his debut in 2020. The 31-year-old is on a winning run and has won his last fight against Matheus Nicolau. However, he faced his first career defeat against Ben Vombaur on October 19, 2012, in a non-title fight. He lost the fight via a unanimous decision. 

His subsequent loss came against Ricky Palacios in May 2016. This fight also ended via a unanimous decision, resulting in “Raw Dawg’s second loss. His next loss came against Nick Urso on April 21, 2017, taking his career losses to three. The American’s fourth loss came against Casey Kenney on November 9, 2018. However, the most significant loss of his career came against Brandon Moreno.

Moreno proved to be a worthy opponent and knocked him out in the first round. A loss against Moreno took his career loss record to five. His sixth career loss came against the opponent he will be facing at UFC 296, Alexandre Pantoja. Both fighters met previously in the Octagon, and Pantoja managed to win that fight via a rear-naked choke. “Raw Dawg” made a very confident start to his UFC career. However, these two back-to-back losses affected his momentum. Royval is now ready to avenge his loss against Pantoja at UFC 296.

Will Brandon Royval be able to beat Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 296?

UFC 296 holds a lot of significance in Brandon Royval’s career. The 31-year-old is coming off a dominant victory against Matheus Nicolau. However, he will face the same opponent who defeated him last time. Alexandre, ‘The Cannibal’ Pantoja, is one of the most dominant fighters in the division. He currently holds a record of 26-5-0. Pantoja earned the flyweight title after beating Brandon Moreno at UFC 290.

He put up a dominant show against Moreno and will be high on confidence. The champion has already registered eight wins via knockout but also has the skill to end fights via submission.
