Mexico’s warrior son has made the whole mother nation proud. Brandon Moreno emerged victorious at UFC 283. The Mexican snatched the Flyweight title away from Deiveson Figueiredo in the Brazilian’s own backyard. The hometown hero couldn’t emerge victorious, and fans displayed their ire at Moreno as they pelted him with trash on his way out after the fight.
However, that was not the only controversy the bout was involved in. Apart from the pelting, Moreno’s post-fight words also ignited controversy. This ended up upsetting a UFC personality.

In the end, ‘The Assassin Baby’ was approached by the color commentator of the night, Daniel Cormier. While talking to the former UFC fighter, Moreno yelled passionately into the microphone, “viva Mexico, perros!” Following his sentence, the flyweight champion made the news for all the wrong reasons.
Former UFC champion Henry Cejudo expressed his disappointment in the Mexican fighter. He even accused him of disrespecting the Brazilian fans by calling them ‘dogs’. However, since the incident, Moreno has come out to clear the air and clarify his intent behind the speech.
Brandon Moreno was actually cursing Mexicans
In a recent interview, journalist Shakiel Mahjouri was joined by the current Flyweight champion of the world. During the conversation, Mahjouri decided to bring up the source of controversy. The reporter mentioned the fact that Henry Cejudo criticized Moreno for his passionate speech following the fight. Mahjouri also asked Moreno to clarify the intent of the answer, “was it meant as an insult to the crowd?”
“That message is not for the Brazilian people. That message was for my Mexican people,” explained Moreno. The fighter did not shy away from exposing who he meant to address. ‘The Assassin Baby’ further clarified that this was also said by him as a term of endearment to his countrymen. “For example, in Mexico, we say ‘hey perros’ like ‘what’s up dogs’,”

The events that transpired after the fight marred the flyweight champion’s celebration at closing out a historic rivalry. It is incredibly sad how the 29-year-old got misunderstood publicly.
The upsetting nature of the Brandon Moreno controversy
Henry Cejudo himself is Mexican by descent. He had Mexican parents. However, publicly, he has chosen not to show a lot of his traditional roots. The flyweight champion was not impressed by Cejudo’s attempt at misconstruing his words despite the ‘Triple C’s’ Mexican lineage.. “It’s very sad this guy’s saying that because the guy has Mexican blood, but that’s the problem when you’re not with your Mexican culture,” voiced out Moreno.
