Cody Garbrandt will make his flyweight debut this weekend at UFC 269. He’ll go up against the number 6 ranked flyweight, Kai-Kara France, in what promises to be an explosive fight.
During the media day in the lead-up to the fight, Garbrandt was asked about the upcoming trilogy flyweight title fight. Brandon Moreno will look to defend his title against Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 270. As the newest member of the flyweight roster and a potential title challenger, Garbrandt said, “You know, I saw that Figueiredo went to Fight Ready camp with Henry Cejudo. I just feel like Moreno really, really broke him in that last fight. It’s one of those things. He gave up and gave him his back and he got submitted. Moreno did a great job and I think it’s going to be no different.”

“Like he (Moreno) said, he’s (Figueiredo) his biggest sponsor. That was a funny quote from him, got to like the guy, he’s a character. I feel like Moreno will win the fight. I think changing camps sometimes isn’t the best thing to do but who knows… I’m excited for whoever wins that fight. I feel confident whoever it is for my time to get my title shot at flyweight. It is destiny for me, and whoever is at the throne, the new king will be there.”
If Garbrandt gets a couple of impressive wins under his belt, a title shot might not be far for him. He will look to make quick work of ‘No Blink’ at UFC 269 and raise his stock.

Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo are going to go head-to-head at UFC 270 in January 2022. This will be a trilogy fight between the two. They first fought at UFC 256, when Moreno stepped in on short notice to fight the then champion. ‘The Assassin Baby‘ gave Figueiredo a run for his money, and the fight ended in a majority draw. They were immediately booked for a rematch and ran it back at UFC 263. This fight was completely different, as Moreno dominated ‘Deus da Guerra‘ and won via submission in the third round.
Now, with the third consecutive fight between the two booked, there seems to be bad blood. The Brazilian fighter joined the Fight Ready camp with Henry Cejudo to prepare for the fight. ‘Triple C’ is the former training and coach of Moreno. The former two-division champion believes that Moreno betrayed him by joining Joseph Benavidez’s team on The Ultimate Fighter 24.
