Brandon Moreno will be back in action at UFC Edmonton or UFC Fight Night 246 on November 2. His opponent? The no. 3 ranked flyweight, Amir Albazi. The pair were originally scheduled to clash in February however due to Albazi suffering from a neck injury, Moreno re-matched Brandon Royval instead.

Moreno, the former flyweight champion, shared on his Instagram account that, “It was good to be away for a couple of months, have the time and see the good things in life around you. But it’s the right time to come back. Thanks @amiralbazi for the patience brother I really appreciate it !! With that been said, it’s time to back up some words you said !!”

Albazi is currently undefeated in the UFC since making his debut in 2020. His last fight inside the Octagon was against Kai Kara-France in 2023 where he won a close-fought split decision. But is he ready to take on the challenge of Brandon Moreno?

At UFC 290, he lost the title to Alexandre Pantoja and his most recent outing against Royval also ended in a split decision loss. Before he went on hiatus, Moreno had shared, “There are many things I haven’t done because I’m 100 percent focused on my training. I just want to rest a bit. This is by no means a goodbye. Just wait for me, have patience, let my body and my mind recover, and we’ll come back to do things well.”

His rival has now moved up to bantamweight but Moreno wants to stick to flyweight. The reason? In an interview with ‘The Schmo’ Moreno explained, “Man, I’m too skinny for 135lbs, I don’t know why but a lot of people have been asking me about the 135lb division but I don’t have the size right now to do that.”

Since Moreno’s hiatus, the flyweight division has seen a shake-up with the rise of new contenders like Steve Erceg, and Tatsuro Taira also breaking into the top 5. With new matchups possibly on the horizon, it remains to be seen how Brandon Moreno deals with the surging Amir Albazi at UFC Edmonton. Could Brandon Moreno be back in the title picture soon enough?
