Katona hails from Winnipeg, Canada, and had his start in martial arts when he started training in karate at the age of 5. He started competing in MMA in 2010, where he managed to build an impressive amateur record of 3-0.

The Canadian made his official UFC debut at UFC 231 in 2018, where he faced Matthew Lopez and secured a unanimous decision victory. However, his next fight was against Merab Dvalishvili at a UFC Fight Night event in 2019. Katona suffered his first professional loss in the fight as Dvalishvili secured a unanimous decision victory against him.

He then faced Hunter Azure at UFC Fight Night: Cowboy vs Gaethje in 2019 and once again, Katona faced a heartbreaking loss via another unanimous decision. After his back-to-back losses, Katona was let go from the UFC after compiling a record of 2-2 in the promotion at the time.

The two losses currently stand as the only blemishes on Katona’s professional record. But that didn’t stop the Canadian from making his way back to the UFC again!
