Former welterweight and now middleweight UFC fighter Darren Till decided to share his honest opinion on which is the better sport MMA or boxing debate. And ignited an argument on the internet in this process.

It all started when the manager of the boxing management company MTK Global, Thomas Stalker, tweeted boxing to be the greatest sport. This tweet didn’t sit well with the former UFC title challenger. 

‘The Gorilla’, who is quite outspoken when it comes to sharing his thoughts, took to his official Twitter account to counter strike. First, Till claimed MMA to be the greatest. Later, he explained why.

The Englishman wrote, Boxing is great, but MMA is greater. The @ufc make the fights the fans and the world wants to see. This doesn’t happen with boxing.”

“In the @ufc the best fight the best. In boxing, there’s a millions world champs saying they are the best. Argue in the comments,” Till concluded. 

‘The Gorilla’ started training MMA at a very young age. He has a perfect undefeated amateur record of 3-0 under his name. Darren Till has been in the professional fighting sport for over a decade now.

Hence, he possesses a better knowledge of the sport. However, his opinion received a mixed reaction from the fans. Some backed the UFC fighter, while others utterly disagreed with him. Here’s how the fight fans reacted to it.

Darren Till fuels a debate on Twitter

Till’s opinion enraged many boxing fans. Meanwhile, MMA fans agreed to his comments and also explained why MMA is better than boxing. However, many people also pointed out the pay issue in MMA, which is why they believe boxing treats athletes better.

One user wrote, “MMA is where those go who can’t make it in boxing lmao. Y’all get paid peanuts compared to Canelo, Fury, Joshua, Crawford etc.”

One of the people reacting to Till’s opinion was the British female professional boxer Natasha Jonas. In her tweet, she explained that boxing is bigger in terms of audience, pay-per-views, and paydays. And hence, according to her, UFC will never overtake boxing.

Another fan compared MMA fighter’s payout to that of Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte. He wrote, “what about the pay comparison? Fury and Dylan are getting millions and these guys peanuts…at the end they are the smart ones when all is settled”
