UFC lightweight veteran Bobby Green is returning to action at UFC 300 against fellow veteran Jim Miller. As we inch closer to the historic pay-per-view, let us take a closer look at ‘King’s life before he dived into the world of MMA, especially his time serving the nation as a member of the armed forces.
Bobby Green is what we call a seasoned veteran in the UFC, with experience of more than a decade in Dana White‘s promotion. He started his martial arts journey in school, where he took up wrestling. However, ‘King’ succumbed to circumstances and could not make use of the stability that his school provided if he wanted to choose to be a wrestler. But things all changed when he decided to join the army.

The 35-15-1 UFC veteran had already lived a hard life by the time he turned 18. Shortly after, Green enlisted in the military program, where he had to go through a 21-week boot camp. While there, the 37-year-old showcased his versatility in various situations proving himself the best cadet among the bunch.

However, Bobby Green could not keep himself in line until the boot camp ended. He got into a fight in the 20th week and ended up getting kicked out. When asked about the incident, Green claimed that it was more of a miscommunication than something that he had done wrong that led him to be ushered out of the army. Nevertheless, he seems to have no regrets about getting kicked out with just a week left in the camp.
‘King’ was happy to have been in boot camp
During an interview with ‘Fox‘ back in 2014, Bobby Green appeared to cherish his time in the army. ‘King’ said, “I thank God for everything they put me through. It made me who I was, who I am now.” The experience in the army brought about a change in the UFC veteran.

As we’ve mentioned earlier, circumstances were dire for Bobby Green when he was growing up. He could not seem to understand how to provide for his family. But the stint at the boot camp changed everything. “I came in, took over the home, got a job, and started providing,” Green added.
