Conor McGregor is the biggest star in MMA. ‘Notorious’s MMA career may not look too bright presently, but his name still holds immense marketing value. And that is exactly what a fledgling promotion like Bare-Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) wants.
Mike Perry is on a victory tour after defeating Eddie Alvarez by corner stoppage in the second round at BKFC 56 on Saturday night, establishing himself as arguably the world’s greatest bare-knuckle fighter, as well as winning the ‘King of Violence’ title. With a dominant performance against Alvarez, Perry, who had already defeated Luke Rockhold in the BKFC ring, added another former UFC champion to his record. After his victory, the former UFC fighter revealed that BKFC President and founder David Feldman had made an incredible offer to Conor McGregor if he would fight in his promotion.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Perry revealed that Feldman had offered Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal essentially a blank cheque if they would be willing to fight in the promotion. “(BKFC President) David Feldman, he’s no joke. What’d he say to Conor? ‘Dude I’ll give you any amount of money you want,’ and probably same thing goes for a Masvidal,” he said.
Along with this, Mike Perry also talked about being challenged by Dillon Danis to a bare-knuckle bout. Danis had tweeted that he was interested in challenging Perry for the ‘King of Violence’ title that ‘Platinum’ had won over Alvarez. While the same blank cheque would not be offered to Danis, the BKFC would still pay him a significant amount to fight Perry.

“If he wants it all, it’s on the table…Maybe not any amount of money you want [to Danis],” Perry said on ‘The MMA Hour’. Perry has accepted the challenge. He told the journalist that he was thankful for the attention Danis brought to his new title. On being asked if he thought Danis’ call-out was genuine, Perry was not sure but added that it was on the table if Danis would be willing to fight him in the BKFC.
Perry on why he wants to fight Danis
Dillon Danis seems to have failed upwards once again. After his atrocious performance against Logan Paul on his boxing debut earlier this year, Danis seemingly had lost all credibility in the MMA world. However, in another example of just how much more important a fighter’s marketability is over their actual ability to fight, Danis may actually get to fight Mike Perry, who has accepted his call-out, for a bare-knuckle boxing match.

‘Platinum’ gave Danis props for showing his toughness in the Logan Paul fight, constantly coming forward and putting pressure on the WWE star during their grudge match. Perry felt that Danis was very good at selling fights and he could generate a lot of buzz for their potential fight, given his ability to troll his opponents to generate headlines.

” Logan [Paul] outboxed him pretty good; he showed his toughness. Obviously, Dillon was tough because he never stopped putting pressure on him and coming after him…but if he is interested in it and then he would start talking all that vulgar stuff to me and get billions of views on social media for people to talk about our fight and the whole world would wanna watch, I’m down for that,” the BKFC superstar added.

Clearly, Danis’ being a professional troll has paid off. While few people respect his fighting abilities or even consider him a serious fighter at the moment, he is an expert at selling fights as was displayed in the run-up to the Logan Paul bout. What do you think about Danis’ callout of Perry? Would you watch that fight? Let us know in the comments.
