Gordon Ryan's dominance: Is he the undisputed GOAT of BJJ, or does Craig Jones still have a chance?

Yet, desp͏ite hi͏s best͏ efforts t͏o͏ ͏͏become the top ͏in t͏he spo͏r͏t͏, he has ͏had to s͏ett͏le for b͏eing th͏e ͏͏s͏ec͏ond͏ be͏s͏t, as G͏ordo͏n͏ Ry͏an’͏s pre͏͏sence has elevat͏ed the game to͏͏ unprecede͏nt͏͏ed ͏heights. Well, at least this is what the multi-million dollar podcaster Joe Rogan thinks about the BJJ world. While having a conversation on ‘The JRE Fight Companion’,  the podcaster emphasized the skillset difference between the fighters which gives an ultimate edge to Ryan.

Craig Jones has been in the headlines recently due to his massive $1 million jiu-jitsu tournament known as ‘The Craig Jones Invitational. The event took place on August 16 and August 17 in Las Vegas at the Thomas and Mack Center. Jone’s event is an awareness program for better treatment for the fighters under ADCC. Regardless, of his efforts to establish himself as the best, Rogan believes that it’s quite difficult to oust Gordon Ryan’s presence. Let’s have a look at it.

Gordon Ryan and Craig Jones have fought multiple times in their decade-long career. Ryan has defeated Jones three times in their career. It would not be inaccurate to remark that ‘King’ is arguably the best no-gi grappler in the world. Their rivalry has been one of the most interesting to witness, however, the skillset difference between the BJJ stalwarts always makes it difficult for Jones to cope with Ryan.

He further added, ” If you didn’t have this dude training 365 days a year, every single day, studying like an ant, super smart, freakishly strong, with technique off the charts—the best ever—if that guy doesn’t exist, Craig Jones is number one. Bro, Gordon is a special athlete, man. You know, there’s a kind of mind that guy has; that’s one in ten lifetimes.

Gordon Ryan secured victory in his first “Super Fight” at ADCC 2024 on Saturday night, defeating longtime rival Felipe Pena on points. Well, Ryan’s BJJ stats are otherworldly. Well, this is not the first time when Rogan has praised the BJJ goat.

Gordon Ryan and Jon Jones consider themselves to be good friends. The fighters even have BJJ sessions with one another. Well, Jones might have been one of the best MMA fighters in the world but will he be able to defeat Gordon Ryan in BJJ? The answer is a big no according to Joe Rogan. In one of his conversations with Brian Simpson and Brendan Schaub, the ‘JRE’ host emphasized that there’s seldom any fighter who could get past Gordon Ryan in terms of BJJ.

“When Gordon trains, Gordon rolls with you technically, like Gordon does not explode, there’s no explosion. Everything is like smooth movements, everything is just technique, smooth movements, scrambles. There’s no explosion, never over-extended, Gordon is just pure technique,” said Rogan.
